I'm guessing the thread "AUTISM HATE? WTF" in the Adolescent Forum was deleted by a mod/admin.

It's not like I have a problem with that, given my comments there (komenasai, BTW, i was in a bad mood at the time) it was probably going to happen without my help. It's just... disconcerting when you try to find if anyone has responed back and the thread has disappeared off of the face of the earth. Perhaps we should implement some system to alert posters if the threads they have posted in are deleted. Would save a lot of wasted time trying to track the thread down.

I'm not sure how or if that would work from the technical side of things; to send a message to each individual on here manually would be a substantial amount of work and time in a good number of cases. Unless there were an automated way, I think the more practical method is to look through your recent posts - if it isn't there, then it is likely gone.

What about locking the thread? If the posts are offensive, perhaps a new kind of lock status could be added. This lock would cause the thread to be unopenable (maybe with an exception for the people that participated in the thread?)

An alternative that should require no programming, is to remove all messages in the thread (replacing the OP with a moderator statement) and then locking it. I don't know if this forum has an easy way to delete posts without going through all of them. OTOH, moderator could lock the thread and remove only the posts that were offensive, or replace them with a statement "removed due to violations of WP rules/whatever other reason".

There are times when content has to be pulled from the forums, Sjamaan - it is not appropriate to leave it for further purview, even for those involved. The example being cited was an attempt to incite a reaction against specific individuals on another site, which is expressly against the site rules and invites turmoil where this is a place for support and help. There is no place for that being preserved in the forum archives and kept available for others.

I've seen cases on other message boards where the initial post was edited to remove the inappropriate content, but the thread, with it's replies was left.
