use the things for closing this account and then open a new one

if you want a new email address all you need to do is go to hotmail or yahoo and do the things for create a new account

um, I guess closing the account is the ticket.

Thanks, I'll probably do that. I just picked this nickname because it's the same one I've used for the past ten years

Users are permitted one account; username changes are not permitted without demonstrating need (use of real name, etc).

No, it cannot be changed without specific cause - creating a new account is in violation of WP's ToS and will result in both/all relevant accounts being banned.

Yeah, if you open a second account, you are breaking the rules and if they find out, you get banned.

the idea was not to actually have 2 accounts

also moderators need to realize the advice saying close --- yes close as in does not exist would not have 2 accounts

i did not see in the terms that getting a new name is a violation unless they added hidden text to to the terms page

But it's not possible to close one's account. Even the moderators/admins, the only way they can "close" an account is to ban it, I'm pretty sure. All we can do is stop using the old one and start a new one. Which is against the rules.

As for "getting a new name", it's not that changing one's own name is against the rules. It's not even possible.

There are things that can't be done. There are things that can be only done my moderators. There are things that can be done but are against the rules.

Can't be done: closing an account.

Can be done by moderators only: deleting an account, banning an account, changing a name. Now, just because they can doesn't mean they will.

Can be done but against the rules: Creating an new account when you already have one. This includes if you desire to stop using the old account.

Now, I'm not one of the moderators. I just happen to know something about what can and can't be done and what the rules are. If you think an exception should be made, I suggest discussing it privately with a moderator.

with full administrator permissions to the server they can go to the accounts list where they can assign permission settings and simply delete the account they want to close

this is basic network administrator tasks

could be never done before is from the person with the permissions not knowing how but it is always possible to close a account

any person that tries to argue this needs a class in network administration since when you create a account it shows in the server as a user account and is assigned a default set of permissions until a full administrator to the server changes the assigned rights

the server gives the delete option and they need to simply use it

adding

things being claimed is against the rules actually has no rule against it

people just to not want to take the time to read the actual terms posted in the terms link at the bottom of the page

all people want to do is think that moderators can never be wrong even when they are

try reading the actual set of terms and not just what a person says they are

You cannot delete an account. We cannot delete an account. Think of the mayhem that would cause in any forum where the account had posted. Banning does not delete an account.

It is very rare that people are able to change their names... Never, for someone who justs decides they want a different name. There has to be one hell of a good reason to do so...

I wish there had been some clear info on the fact that once you choose a nickname you're stuck with it. I chose mine out of habit. I would have thought about it if I'd known it couldn't be changed later on. Most forums I've joined have allowed for this, so I actually assumed it would be possible here too. I certainly didn't think I could be banned for abandoning one account and starting a new one.

But in all honesty, I didn't read the fine print very carefully. So unless there's a loop-hole I'll be LipstickKiller forever. I don't wanna be banned. It's not that important.

On the bright side, at least it's distinctive and we'll not mistake you for anyone else :)
