I know that keeping WrongPlanet.net going relies on personal donations and revenue from ads which appear in sidebars and in banners at the top. Are all of these ads from AdSense, and if so, is there a possibility that they can be chosen differently? I know, for example, that one can choose text-only ads at AdSense, and indeed some sections of WrongPlanet.net have these already.

There is one ad in particular (which appears on the left when reading many forum threads) which is visually very intrusive, because it flashes a lot -- bright, dark, different images, lots of motion, etc. I think it's for something like cchr.org. I was thinking how ironic it was that I was reading about sensory issues such as visual overload whilst at that very moment I was being subjected to it! Could this be changed, perhaps, so that we have more "autistic friendly" ads here? If not, it's fine, I usually just block one eye and shield part of the computer screen with my left hand, but I think the advertisers would probably prefer it if people liked their ads and clicked on them rather than quite literally blocking them out.

Hi, I can't answer your Q but can give you an alternative (you've probably heard it before). If you downlaod Firefox and start using that as your browser, then you can go get some useful Add-ons particularly one called Add-Blocker Plus. Using this set-up I haven't seen an advert on any website for a long time and it really does improve the internet experience. If you do see an ad with this running just right click and select block image.

Thank-you! I already use Firefox and I did not know about that feature. I didn't have to download anything, I just right-clicked and it worked!
