I understand if people arguing really badly and throwing around personal insults at each other, but even then, surely a warning is better first?

It is really annoying me how many of the threads I've been interested in (and interested in actually discussing I mean, not trolling or pissing about) have just been locked because a mod has decided there's nothing new that can be said

There have been quite a few times I've wanted to respond to someone's posts and haven't been able to because of this

Which is all the more annoying when dozens of threads are allowed to wander in circles.

It seems to me--though I may be mistaken--that threads about mods and moderation practices are more often locked. Pay no attention to the man behind the screen.

It is absolutely true that these threads are read more often by moderators. Probably 75% of the other threads are not.

I think if you look at each one you will see a common theme or element that actually isn't mod-bashing. If someone wishes to continue the ongoing debate in a new thread, and everyone keeps their cool, I can assure you it will remain open for discussion.

Thanks. So I could make a new thread to continue the discussion from the "straight and non'trans forum" thread, in a different forum? I understand that the OP was probably taking the piss, but I think it raises real issues

Yup - so long as everyone follows the rules and plays nice ;)

Even better, I unlocked the original thread and moved it to PPR. This way everyone can argue the merits in an abstract sense. It has no chance of actually happening so doesn't belong in the wp.net discussion.
