1. I think a "Find all threads started by this user" option next to the "Find all posts" would be useful. It would help if someone's feeling down because nobody posts in their thread (just click and you can find them all).

2. Make the "Members Only" forum completely invisible to non-members. Currently, you can see the link to it if you aren't logged in. This may cause some to get an account just to see the forum. If it was completely invisible, the only people looking at it would be people who already decided to make an account for another reason.

I definitely like number one. It would be cool to have a list of threads I've posted in. Yeah, I can do "View your posts" and look for ones with me as the author. But being as I post in a lot more threads than what I start, that's kinda tedious to have to look at each post in the "author" column to find mine. Unfortunately, that may not be reasonably doable.

I'm neutral on the 2nd suggestion. I think it's a good idea, but I'm also okay with how things are.

You can view all posts that you've posted in by selecting "View my posts" at the upper right corner of the forum index next to "View new posts since my last visit"; if you want to see all the posts of another member, click on their name to access their profile, then select "Find all posts by [username]" to get your list.

I was suggesting to have a list like that (and linked to right next to that) that would only show what threads the user had started. For example, the search would show my first post in this thread, but not this one.

It's just easier if threads get marked with a dot or with a check mark or with a star we have replied in.

I'm suggesting something that just shows threads we started. Like my list would have this thread, the "First video game?" thread, and the Pokémon discussion thread (and others, but you get the point). It would only show the first posts (the thread's original post) on the list.

Alex is the only one who has any ability to make such changes; please feel free to contact him using the methods he has provided through the site and his profile to share those with him as well. I'm not sure what purpose such a tool would serve, other than a minor convenience unless I am missing something.

I agree with your second suggestion, btw - Member's Only should be just that.

I like idea #1

even If someone creates an account just to view the member's only section, they may decide to start posting as well.

2. because there are indeed a lot of nosy people.

1. would be very useful. I need something like that all the time, usually for my own posts. A competent manual search function would be great too, as I was trying to find a post and had to browse through 30 or so pages, one post at a time and I still end up overlooking what I am looking for.

The second suggestion is however already invisible.... No members are able to view this thread without a membership.

Not quite. Or does my IP simply show that I have an account despite not being logged in?

It will show it on the forums homepage, however you click it and it will redirect you to the log in page... Google doesn't capture it either through their pages.... So its very secure.

If your IP without logging into wrongplanet is actually opening the members section, it is most likely to be a glitch or the IP is similar to the websites IP.

Do you mean you want it completely invisible for the guests but visible for the members?

I understood pat2rome to be saying that non-members should not be able to see that the forum exists. Currently, as you yourself say, they can.
