The "Art, music, and writing" thread is 99% music, which is fine except that I started losing track of popular music back around the time boomer rock gabe way to disco. My interest is books - fiction, nonfiction, whatever. How about that for a topic? Would anyone else be interested?

Go ahead and start one. If other people are interested, they'll post in it. If not, they won't. Books are cool and I'm sure you can find at least a few other people still here who are interested in reading.

Well, what book(s) are you reading right now? I am reading a biography of Pol Pot, a history of the Khmer Rouge regime, a book on the Knights Templar, an microeconomics textbook I picked up at a discount store, and a StarCraft strategy guide. Last week I finished The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich (which was REALLY interesting), and the first volume of The Gulag Archipelago. I also re-read 1984.

Oh, and I am SLOWLY picking my way through PHP 5 and MYSQL...that is tough.

I'm reading "Democracy's Edge", which is slanted towards a small-planet communitarianism, and "The Renaissance Soul," or how those of us with nonlinear minds can still discover and follow our bliss. Its point: "Don't pick one. Pick 4. Follow them until you feel you're done. Then pick something else." Among other things.

Also some Roman murder mysteries. Ancient Rome is cool - and SO like today!
