That depends on who you ask.

There's the "unhinged moderator pursuing a vendetta against a member" theory, then there's the "site glitch causing deletion and ensuing witch hunt throwing said moderator under the bus" version. There are many other rumors floating about, but those are the two main ones. Personally I don't think either of the main theories adequately explain how a user account with a 5 figure post count was permanently deleted along with every one of those posts, I'd think that sort of thing would take administrator access, which I don't believe the regular mods have.

Apparently yes, but it screws up the forum software and so the site policy is to simply not allow it.

I can rememember one of the old mods saying that you can ask a mod if a user was banned or not but they can't tell you why they were banned.

There's policy, and there's what they software actually allows.

Yes, the software does allow those with proper permission to delete accounts. I have no idea if the settings currently allow any moderator to do that, or just Alex.

According to policy, moderators and admins have never been allowed to delete accounts. But, apparently, that wasn't enforced by the software. They were trusted to follow that.

So, the answer to the question why was it allowed... It wasn't allowed. It simply wasn't prevented. Kinda like, if you have a gun, you aren't allowed to shoot someone with it, even if nothing outside you is preventing it.

So, no, you won't get your profile deleted. It's not allowed, and the fact that someone went against the rules and did it doesn't change the rules, nor the reasons behind them.

Do something really bad in all of your posts and they might delete them all, who knows.

My theory is that the mods don't want to do it because it makes things confusing when loads of posts suddenly go missing from the forums, but as a website admin myself I don't see why it wouldn't be technically possible.

Of all the other forums I have been on, when accounts get deleted, all the posts turn into guests. Their posts are still there but their usernamer is now unclickable and it goes back to the name they registered with.

Other places say they can't/don't delete accounts but say they can deactivate them.

But I guess on this forum when you delete an account, all their posts go with it. Unless there is a option "Delete account and all user's posts."
