I don't think those will help anyone; Alex is going to pick moderators based on how well he thinks they will enforce the site's rules, not on how popular they will be. If you really do think someone will make a good moderator, send Alex or a current moderator a courteous PM which lists the reasons you think that. This isn't a decision made by the general users of WP, so I don't think public campaigning is the best way to go about things.

Good thoughts. A popularly elected moderator is going to have favorites, and that always causes dissension.

I think that is how exactly mods are chosen here.

But it can still be a popularity thing. Anyone can recommend a person as a mod just because they like them and all. Let's say a member here was popular and very likable by lot of users here, they can all send alex a PM telling him this user be a good mod and why.

I will repeat what I said in the other thread verbatim

Yes the site owner ought to make the choice and it is not a popularity contest.
Now let's take your brainwave a little further and entertain the concept that with a forum of as many people as is on WP that Alex, as informed as and involved as he is with this site may actually not know everyone on here.
I know, heavy stuff but bear with me, if he has a thread bringing someone to his sight that he may have not ordinarily have entertained and as he again may not know such a person, ge some insight into this "potential candidate" then this is not a popularity contest nor denouncing his right to make a decision.
Again your original post makes no sense in light of this and as such ought to be rethought.

Perhaps we can put this into concrete terms.
Alex is a employer of a construction firm. Ought he walk around the streets of the city he is based in and size up big strong looking bloke and say "Hey big fella you look like you would be pretty good at hauling bricks could you be in my crew? or would he be better off placing an add and getting people to apply for such a job. Were he to, would it make sense that he had some insight from what they did and who they were and get references?
See that my friend would actually be a smarter way to go about things, huh?
What you are suggesting would not be. You see the difference?

Now the reality is that Alex has in the past chosen as you say and considering the apparently all too recent past experiences with mods I don't think this process has got the best results for him, the site, the members or perhaps the mods he has chosen. You can of course hold onto your views no matter how silly I feel they are.

I don't think any of those threads are meant to be serious nominations. They are attempts, however, to point out an issue, and since Alex posted in one of them, presumably the issue can be considered conveyed.

My apologies. I flushed out why I read it as I did in the other thread.

I should toss my name in for moderator then because I am popular with no one.

If Alex was considering any of em for moderator positions & he was unsure; he would of started a poll himself. Those post are shameless attempts to start a popularity contest here.
_ for moderator means do you think _ is ubber kewl; NOT do you think _ will be a good mod

This is a shameless attempt at rationality. It has failed miserably for all the reasons I have been pointing out. Sorry fella. You got it wrong.
