questions about chatroom

i was on the chatroom for the first time today(not really i didn't say anything just preperation) and i didn't understand a few things

1. how do the nicknames work?

2. is there a certain amount of time you are aloud between each post? (before you are kicked off)

3. do i just go in and join the conversation or is there somthing i need to do first?

i'm sorry if these are stupid questions, I haven't been in a chatroom for a long time.

I'd recommend you get a proper dedicated IRC chat client if you're going to spend any amount of time in there. Try XChat (http://www.xchat.org/).

When you've installed it, open it up and you should eventually see something a bit like this:



Go down to FreeNode and fill your nicknames in as you'd like them and then click 'Connect'. Once it's all loaded type /join #wrongplanet and you should be in.

2) Depends which chatroom you're in. Some channels do not like people idling at all, and you can be kicked off/banned for doing so. Others don't mind too much as long as you're not idle for days. Others don't care.

3) Just come in and join us.
