There really should be a way to "split" threads, to keep the original thread on the original topic while allowing people to continue a discussion that has gone way away, but that enough people are passionate about. I am frustrated at having to drag my threads back on topic, while at other times I have something to say about a comment in another thread that is nevertheless off topic, and refrain from posting it because I don't want to interrupt the flow on that thread. The latter situation is sometimes solvable by copying and pasting the relevant comment into a new thread, but sometimes this is less than ideal.

I suppose that maybe part of the way to solve this is through blogs. If I were to make a blog and post lengthy questions as blog posts, and only allow people to comment who had serious, intelligent answers (and vice versa for them and their issues), then that might work. I just thought others might have thought about the same thing.

Moderators have this ability, but normal members don't. If you want threads split (and there would have to be a good reason to do so), just contact a mod (like me).

I'm not sure if the cases I am referring to are "good reasons"--it's just that people make several posts in succession about something that was mentioned in the thread, that itself was veering off topic.

But about the blogs, how does the commenting system work on the blogs here? Is it possible to moderate comments such that things are kept on topic, and commenters who say random things cannot clutter them up?

Unfortunately, moderators can't edit comments, which is a pity, because many scammers target that.

No, I meant whether the blog owner can do so, as many (if not most) blogs have such a feature. I want a type of forum that I can moderate myself, unlike the public boards. Maybe I have to go to Blogger or Wordpress for that. The only issue then is that I don't know how I'd get enough people on the spectrum to actually know about it and read it, to make it worthwhile. I have a blog already that has nothing to do with autism/Aspergers (though its content is still narrow-interest, to certain scientists, and I rarely post) and I basically never get comments.
