There's an extremely annoying ad for ADHD medication that seems to be coming up on all pages right now that I suspect isn't pleasant for any aspie. Can you either quit carrying the ad, or at least let us know what site it comes from so we can block it? It doesn't show up in "view source", so I think it's being loaded through javascript/flash.

Use Adblock, it gets rid of these annoying ads but you would need firefox for it to work.

How annoying can it be?
Ads are good, I mean, Old Planky needs to eat as well

I'm not allowed to download any software onto this computer so I can't block that ad.

I agree it is also driving me bonkers, it makes me not want to come to the site and I get the urge punch the screen when I see it, argh.

is that the one the little girl keeps spitting out the ADHD capsules and the ad is for the kind you can 'sprinkle' on their food, instead? Yeah, that one grosses me out, too.

I've just added this and it really does work a treat! Thanks for the tip Ian!

For anyone who uses Internet Explorer or who doesn't want Alex to lose revenue for Wrong Planet by blocking the advert I've made an alternative. A simple resizeable program window that acts like a bit of sticky paper you can place over the top of the annoying advert to hide it.

I can email a copy of the tiny program to anyone who wants a copy. It will work on Windows XP, Vista and should work on Windows 7 too. There is no installer. Simply run the program and drag the window over the top of the offending adverts. Send me a PM with your email address if you want a copy of the program. It is free.

I got the idea from Leejosepho who has stuck a bit of paper to his screen to hide the annoying advert!

ADHighlyDisgusting topic

I have never seen this, and I use Internet Explorer. I detest Firefox, and so will not use it. But if I need this sticky paper tool, I will write to the TallyMan.

So WP becomes everything it started out not being. A place where advertising for sneaking ADHD medication into children unsuspecting becomes part of the revenue for the site. So much for us being a radical site for Aspies that define our own way in life. We are now pasting electronic sticky notes over the offending adverts and 'paying no attention to the man behind the curtain of the Great and Powerful Oz.'

Alex has no control over the ads.

Well. Nothing in this world is free. We either have to "pay" for this space with annoying ads, or agree to fees so that there aren't any. I belong to a community that did the later. The site manager posted the cost to keep the site ad free with 3 years, divided that by the number of members, and asked us to vote on if we'd pay the cost or have ads. After 2/3 voted to pay, the site manager gave us all 30 days to pay up. Anyone who did not, was banned from the site. I can't say I'd like WP to go that route ... just doesn't seem like a fit for this place. Which leaves the question: what ARE the other funding alternatives?

In principle Alex could do both routes. Have an option for paid membership, and those members don't get served any adverts. So Sinsboldly would be happy then (for a change) as she could open her purse and be a paying member.

I know of forums that do this. I was briefly on a Nissan cars forum that offered paid memberships in exchange for squelching the ads. You could use the forum for free, but got served a gazillion ads.

By the way, I see that the bouncing boy is back.

Are these Google AdSense ads? I can't see them (thanks, NoScript!), so I dunno, but if they are, Alex can easily add that ADHD site to a blacklist in his account so ads from them don't show up.

In fact, the same goes for Bidvertiser and pretty much every other ad service TBH.

So, yes, Alex does have a level of control over the ads.

He said in another thread on the subject (ADHD medication ads) that they're the highest paying adverts on the site. So, whilst he could block them, there's reason not to.
