Is there any way to get rid of that autism talks stuff for one?

And seriously, why is there stuff like advertising for dating black women, old women and Russian women? Stuff like that is usually a con, and people on the spectrum can be vunerable with these kind of things.

Adverse-tisements topic

This is not a paying site, so revenue has to come from somewhere. I agree much is garbage, but I will not use the FireFox browser to run Adblock, as it beggers my computer (the cure is worse than the disease).

Weird and creepy stuff like diet ads and internet paper dolls cutout "fun" are two examples of junk I try to ignore.

I thought all the donations Alex gets were to pay for the site?

Seriously how long is it going to take for people to realize what adblock is?

Well it's almost at the point where a new topic comes up like this every 3 days. 5 people rush in, "I hate them too!" then 2-3 guys rush in GET FIREFOX AND ADBLOCK PLUS. The complaint topics are getting near the annoyance level of the ads.

Believe me, I have worked an 8 hour day today with a 40 minute commute. I don't spend too much time online, I just have been using adblock since I was 16 or so, it's easy as s**t to find too since it's one of the most popular add-ons.

I don't understand why people have such a problem with ads. Obviously, I feel that certain ads are inappropriate for this site, but with ads in general? I don't understand.

See, I'm broke, so I can't donate to the sites I like. When there are ads on them, though, I feel like I'm at least doing SOMETHING to help the site stay afloat.

Maybe i'll get one if it pisses me off too much.

I just find ads annoying in general.

I personally choose to see and visit the ads as it gives extra funding to WP. Of course if a particular ad is bothering you then you could always use AdBlockPlus as mentioned.

AdBlockPlus

You can use it to write custom rules to block specific things but it's quite advanced. By default it just blocks everything. You can use the following link to apply subscriptions:

For once I wholeheartedly agree with something Pistonhead says!

I've used Firefox / Adblock plus for years. Not only does it get rid of the adverts it also makes for safer browsing as there is less chance of picking up trojans etc from malicious code embedded in adverts. I also use NoScript and Flashblock as it gives me more control over what sites are allowed to do on my computer. A big issue for me is that I've only got dial-up internet since I live in the middle of a field in rural France! Lots of these adverts take up far more bandwidth than the pages I'm trying to look at and they kill the page load speed. Blocking adverts if you are on dial-up makes pages load much faster.

I find it funny how people whine about gettnig adverts when well and truly they can install firefox and get adblock, it would save everyone from the annoying stupid ads.

No pun intended.
