for over a week now im not getting notified about topic responses and i do check my spam folder regularly.i have not changed any setting either

Are you using a hotmail address to receive email notifications?

I had the same problem as you. I had not changed any settings and then all of the sudden they stopped.

I changed from a hotmail to a gmail address just for WP and the email notifications started again. No idea who is to blame for the problem as I have no problems receiving email notifications from other forums on my hotmail address.

Me neither.
There's a thread that has been started on this already; maybe it sank, though.
