This is a warning there is a predator among us. I was PMed by someone calling herself Peace. When I replied, mostly out of politeness, she send me back a new version of the Nigerian Scam. Beware, all members, this 'girl' will rob you blind if you respond to her. She may well try again using a different name.

Report the user to the mods. Lot of scams go on here through PM. Pretty much they all say they saw your profile and thought you are a perfect match for them, something like that or say they are interested in you. I always ignore the PMs and just delete them. The users have usually been handled already by the time I read them. Lot of them are just spam bots too.

Never reply to these things - it just confirms your address as being valid and active.

It's best not to respond and please also report it :)

Tell me, is the username peace or peace201?

Yes, it was Peace201. I'm trying to figure out how to forward it. I don't see a forward Message button here. But I read enough of it to recognize it. A few details are changed, but it's the same old scam. I've always been amazed that people fall for it.

Just copy and paste it here and Sallamandrina will take care of it.

I suggest having a specific thread where people may post these scam PM's.

Scam messages such as these are called "formats." They are mass-emailed from accounts which have low life-expectancies, with replies to be sent to longer-lived accounts. Shutting down their email account is counterproductive, because it takes them 5 minutes to create a new one which will not be found by a Google search.

Altering the warning on the PM inbox to ask the user to search the site for phrases in unsolicited PM's would then lead them to that thread.

A similar system exists with email scams on sites such as scamwarners.com and romancescam.com

It is to our benefit that potential future victims can Google or otherwise search for the text of scams and find information.

Shutting down their profiles does not do much to stop them, but luckily since they rarely deviate from the formats and scripts they have purchased, they are easily spotted in their new incarnations.

For anyone who wants more information, read this tutorial on how to spot a romance scammer.

(419 scams and scambaiting is one of my strong interests)
