Isn't calling people ignorant or a troll a personal attack? Those labels seem to get thrown round a lot. People accusing someone of being ignorant, because they point something out that they are too ignorant to see, or refuse to see. To me, that itself seems ignorant. And calling people trolls, when maybe they just have some strange views. Yeah, some of the time they are right, and the person is just trolling. Maybe its an aspie thing, where some individual doesn't seem to fit in with their regular thought patterns, so they can only see them as a troll or ignorant. So is it an offense to call people this?

This has been discussed numerous times. When mods see posts in which there are personal attacks, they do a good job of jumping on it.
However, having said that, mods aren't paid and they aren't constantly on this site. Sometimes you have to PM them about something or post it in the thread in this subforum dedicated to bringing something to the attention of the mods. If they don't stumble upon it themselves and they aren't notified it, chances are no actions will be taken.
They've already stated that calling someone a "troll" isn't acceptable.

It just seems to happen a lot though, and the "trolls" are the ones who end up in trouble. I don't see any problem where someone will post a link of a troll on the mod thread. But just calling someone a troll, or posting a picture of a troll, or one saying "don't feed the troll", is not only "feeding the troll", but is an attack.

Like I said, the mods aren't omnipresent on this forum. They can't see every little attack; you have to notify them sometimes if it really bothers you.

I think it's okay to call someone ignorant.
Troll =/= ignorant?

I think "ignorant" is more of an attack than "troll", but that's just my opinion. 8O

I suppose you can say someone is being ignorant instead of saying they are ignorant?
Is that different?
I try not to call people names, full stop. :lol:

I think "ignorant" is insulting and patronising. It's totally different from calling someone a troll.

Yeah, saying someone is being ignorant isn't half as bad. Its funny if if they call someone ignorant for apparently not being accepting of a certain type of person, but then they themselves aren't accepting of the "ignorant" person's opinion :P

I know calling someone a troll or ignorant are different things. Just put them together, cause it seems they are both thrown around a lot, and a lot by certain people.

I think calling people a troll is a personal attack but yet it's allowed to call people trolls here if they are one but I don't think that is a good rule because people get mistaken as trolls all the time. Some people have incredible poor social skills and it's sad to see them being called a troll by their own kind. Even people with low self esteem get called one too.

Ignorant, uh I see nothing wrong with it. It's a fact because everyone is ignorant in stuff. Some people are ignorant about a situation or ignorant about issues. I don't think saying "There is lot of ignorance in this thread about bla bla bla" is an attack.

Woops I just did an attack. :P I called everyone ignorant. :lol:

I'm not saying people aren't ignorant. But with some people its all they can say, when maybe the person just has an opinion they don't like or agree with.

Yes, that can be annoying when a more meaningful response is sought after.
