notification alerts?

any chance we could get something like this? like the one on facebook? i have pretty bad short term memory... would make it much easier.

maybe it could work like this: when a WP member posts a comment on a thread, the notification system would alert them on the next five comments since their last post. what do you all think

At the bottom of each thread there is a 'watch this topic for replies' link. Click that on a thread you want to follow, and it will send you an email each time the thread is replied to.

There's also the 'view my posts' link near the top of the forum which is handy for finding recently replied to threads you've contributed to.

New forum software has been on the horizon for a while, perhaps it will have something more like the Facebook system you describe. That would be pretty neat, in fact.

yep. i agree, little red numbers that pop out at me would be very convenient for my..situation

Ha, I've only just joined up and I came here to suggest that very same idea.

I do like Facebook alerts. Unlike most facebook things, they are very simple to use. I am aware of the WP e-mail notifications option but I don't like to use it; I don't like having my inbox clogged up with forum stuff, or having to go into each and every e-mail and click each and every link. Maybe I'm just lazy. I'll use the alternative method that's been suggested on the main forum page - I didn't realise that was there before.
