Other forums I use have a thanks button and I'm so used to it that I feel really rude or mean here not being able to thank other people's posts that I like/agree with/find useful. Any chance? Pretty please? :) :)

Won't it get over-used like the "Like" button on Facebook?

So what if it does? It's a nice gesture that gives you a fuzzy warm feeling :)

I guess I never understood the purpose of a "like" or "thanks" button. I have that trouble in Facebook sometimes. I know how to comment on stuff, but it is not clear if I should "like" it.

Thanks to all poster in this thread. :)

Umm, why not just post a short message expressing your agreement or thanks?

That's what I've been trying to do, but especially if all their message is doing is agreeing with mine or thanking me for example, then for me to post a message thanking them for thanking me or agreeing with me it gets a little bit repetitive, whereas with a thanks button we each click the thanks and we're good to go :)

It's a useful and heavily-relied-upon little button where I usually go, so I understand its usefulness and I miss it here, that's all.

Well I don't think I'd take it quite that far - we'd end up spending our time thanking the thanks that thanked the thanks that ...
I thought you just meant when someone had posted something particularly meaningful, or well explained, or funny, or useful - that it would be nice to say thanks. Well yes it would, but I think a short message says it better than clicking a button, really. Plus, there's always PM.
Sorry.

[ETA: you just thanked OSB - that was Ok, wasn't it? It looks fine to me, plus you got to use an emoticon to give it that extra zing! ]

I like thank you buttons, they are a whizzy way of giving someone a little boost without cluttering a thread.

Hmm, thread clutter. Yes, there is that... :chin:

Hows about a vote up/vote down button, with strictly one vote per user?
Vote up = thanks, vote down = disagree, no vote = no comment.

I actually like this better than just a like button. It seems more meaningful.

The thanks or like button idea is a groovy one. More positivity is a good thing.

My problem is their is no "dislike" or "no thanks" button. So if I disagree then I must comment every time and that might make me seem more negative.

It's not necessarily negative to disagree.

I disagree. :)
Negativity and disagreeing often go hand-in-hand. Or maybe disagreeing a lot makes me seem argumentative which a lot of people have negative reactions too.
