Lately this little sentence has been appearing under some of my posts, just above the signature, in tiny little writing. I didn't used to ever have it and I haven't changed any settings in my profile (only my signature, but this happened before I changed that), and I don't want everyone to see how many times I edit my posts (since I make SO many edits after submitting).

Sentence example:

Anyone have any idea how to get rid of this?

You can't get rid of it. It is a normal part of forum software functionality. It exists to show other members that a post has been changed that they may have already commented on.

I think it's very handy that it exists. I find there are a couple of users that keep changing their post after people reply to them in order to defeat or confuse a debate in response to the original debate. It catches weaker debaters out.

yeah good point. interestingly moderators can edit members' posts stealthily but our own posts will show the same stamp if we edit them.

I notice it doesn't show at the bottom it's been edited by a mod. They would have to put the note in themselves. Plus it does confuse members if a mod just edits the post and doesn't leave a note in it. I think this forum only had one mod that did that.

I know some do it to make the repliers look bad so it looks like everyone is attacking the OP or replier in the thread and make it look like they are over reacting. Then people who have never seen the original post get confused and think people are just over reacting or being rude or mean. Even with the edit note at the bottom, it can still confuse members because they still don't know. They may just think the person corrected an error.

i actually wish it did automatically show that we had edited it, as it would be easier and more obvious. but yeah - we do try to make a note.

Yeah it's really not good sport at all.
There are times I remove sets of posts entirely but only at the request of users on the condition they do the same.
I guess some people that like to argue aren't ready for people to argue back.

Has to be said though, I do find it a useful feature because I like to know if people have been tampering with the discussion or forgot to add something in, or may have added something useful while I was away.

Well it's funny that the sentence hasn't come up before, only just recently. And I only correct errors because sometimes I can't always be bothered to read through before submitting, and then I always seem to spot the mistakes as soon as I have submitted. I have having errors in my posts.

If you edit your posts before anyone replies to the thread the sentence doesn't appear, however, It ALWAYS appears if you edit a post in a thread to which other members have since made posts.

I may be confusing this forum with another one, but it seems like occasionally it also marks it as edited when someone has read your post, but not yet commented.

I tend to go through an edit flurry on some of my posts right after posting them.

Same lol. Typos and poor grammar, wording usually.
