I'd really love to see more emoticons here. One I love to use from time to time is the "chin-scratch" Image

We don't have one that quite gets the same message across.

They're pretty easy to add to the site.

Anyone else like to see more of them available?

:chin:

I would. I often find an appropriate emoticon isn't available to insert at the appropriate moment.

Awesome.

On a side note, but related, I've always wondered why we didn't have a lot more of them available. A plentiful selection of them allows insertion of subtle hints as to our moods as we write. I've always felt that a good size selection of them might help at least some of the misunderstandings that happen here.

We may not be all that good at reading facial expressions in real life, but emoticons aren't that hard to read for most of us (I don't think). If we had the right facial expressions to insert, it might help stop some misinterpretations of the tone of certain posts. Misinterpretations that sometimes cause arguments that might otherwise not have happened.

Just a thought.

I count 106 emoticons available :!: . Are you seriously suggesting that is not enough? 8O There are far more emoticons than I know what to do with. :)

The head scratching emoticon is synonymous with the proposed chin scratching one. They both mean "huh!"

There are also plenty of emoticons that can be used to show support for someone. A "hug" would be unnecessary.
There are also plenty of emoticons that can be used to show displeasure. A "spanking" one would also be unnecessary.

I would quite like there to be some new emoticons, however I also like looking for new ones. :bounce: I rarely use any different ones on here, although maybe I will try to now. :P

Yes. I am seriously suggesting there aren't enough. Many of the emoticons that are available mean nothing whatsoever to me, and therefore have no use.

I must respectfully disagree that a head scratch, and chin scratch are not the same at all. Of course, it does depend on the exact emoticons chosen.

This: Image (more of a "Hmmm, I don't know about that," indicating probable disagreement)

means something a little different from this: Image (more of a generic, contemplative "Hmmm...." with no agreement or disagreement indicated.)

This:  however, means something more along the lines of "WTF? Are you kidding me? This hurts my head."

The subtle differences are important.

Doesn't XD mean 8O (shocked)

Also : ) is :) (smile) why is that one hard?

I think :D (very happy) would be a stronger version.

I actually have trouble sometimes with emoticons, because it is not obvious what some of them mean. The mouseover descriptions are invaluable to me. I can't be the only one with this problem.

And see I wouldn't know that and the meaning would be lost on me. I actually feel bad about this because I feel I use language very well, and yet I don't understand some emoticons. Where can you learn more about this stuff--seriously. I really would like to improve my communication skills.

No. O.o is shocked or, on this site, 8O. XD is grinning so big your eyes shut. A silly, over the top grin.

The mouth is open. It's a weird smile. There's no difference between :) and :D. There's no slight smile with the mouth closed which is more appropriate on many occasions.

Smileys are basically digital non verbal communications or body language

Any material on the subject, might help. Try you tube
