I believe there is a bug in Wrong Planet that popped up within the last 4 days.

Whenever I visit the site, my CPU useage goes way up. Something on the page is making the CPU process way more code than it should be. Normal CPU for my browser is 1-3%. Wrong Planet is pulling 20-30% usage.

All my Flash and Java are up to date.

Me too, it now locks up my iPad/iPhone, in either Safari or Chrome. It's usable on my laptop but 50% CPU.

I've also noticed some style sheet css appearing in the ad choices banner to the left.

Jason.

Oh, it was fine 12 hours ago. It's developed in the last 4-12 hours.

Some more info. Site is fine in IE, but Chrome/Webkit browsers seem affected.

It only seems to happen when viewing a post, the indexes seem OK.

I was getting 6-8 percent in I.E.

Def higher than normal but nowhere near as bad as Chrome.

The whole site hasn't been accessible in Firefox at all since yesterday morning, supposedly because Cloudflare is being unresponsive :?
It might have something to do with this "bug". Using IE atm and it's fine

I haven't had an issue visiting this site recently with Firefox.

Did you just fix it for me? It works now, lol
It's very very slow though.

So more is known about this issue. Yup, it freezes my iPad unless I turn off JavaScript. I didn't think to check the CPU usage on the computer, and won't be near one for a while but... this is definitely something worth checking.

As of right now, the problem persists.

I've just uninstalled Google Chrome because it was taking 100% CPU and the memory usage getting so high I got warnings from AVG. Makes me wonder now if the problem was with WP rather than Chrome? I only used Chrome to access WP as site administrator. Don't have any problems with Firefox on this site though.

Damn, looks like it's just me
Presently loading a WP page on FF freezes the browser twice, resulting in a total load time of around...2 minutes. All other sites are fine but it must be some local setting I guess?

Have you tried clearing your browser cache and restarting Firefox?

Firefox and IE seem fine for me.

Chrome and Safari use a lot of CPU still. The CPU usage is so high that on an iPhone or iPad, it locks up the entire browser app.

On my reasonable spec laptop, the site uses about 12-15% CPU per tab. This is enough to get my laptop fan on after a minute or two's browsing.

If Javascript is switched off, then the page times return to normal.

This is very suspicious, I'll log an incident with Google, they might be able to explain why this is happening.

Jason.

Can Ipad users recommend me a browser where this doesn't happen? Because I happen to have both Safari and Chrome :?

Interesting. My CPU usage peaks but for only a fraction of a second and that is when I'm using mostly the mouse and certain keystrokes. I checked into this a while back because everything was hanging up on me including WP. And that is why I upgraded my RAM on my laptop. But, if my CPU spikes just for a fraction of a second each time I'm not too worried about it.

As for Google Chrome, I don't like it because it gave me fits too and don't even have it on my laptop anymore.
