I have kind of an old/slow computer, and when i go into a thread with a lot of embedded videos everything kind of crashes.

Typically I circumvent this by avoiding threads that are blatantly "list of songs" and are just everyone embedding videos without discussing anything. However, it recently became an issue in a thread I created, where I asked people to not do that and it happened anyway. I can't revisit that thread without dealing with computer hangups and other issues.

I'm wondering if theres a way I could disable video embedding on my end? Some way that it just ignores loading them and my computer doesn't hang up. I only really have this issue with WP and not other websites that do video embedding.

Your best bet is probably to use a browser plugin like ad block plus to disable video embeds (and, if you'd like, most ads as well). It likely won't block the content automatically (it only blocks known ads automatically out of the box) - you'll have to tell it to block those videos after you install it, but once you tell it to you can have it block all video embeds, or just embeds on WP.

Your other option would be to potentially block all flash objects from loading in your browser - but that would inadvertently affect other sites as well as WP.
