Can't get chat to work
3 ways to connect.....
1 Java version gets a security error of some kind
2 lite version says click "connect" yet there is no "connect" to click on
3 irc version wants an application to run under. OK what application?

1. Enter the nickname you'd like to use
2. Enter the channel as #wrongplanet
3. Type in the reCAPTCHA codes
4. Click "Connect"

Free IRC clients are available for most operating systems so you could download and use one of those instead.
The basics are still the same: provide a channel name, choose a nick, connect.

OK tried the above,
after getting what looked like a bunch of programming code, I could see people typing but can not type myself

The "bunch of code" is various messages concerning the system.
Once that's finished you'll see conversations occurring between people in the chat room - these will display in the main window.
At the bottom of this is a narrow strip: type what you want to say in there and press Enter - you should then see it appear in the main screen.
Congratulations - you are now talking on an IRC channel.

There are loads of other commands available to make things easier and do other nifty tricks - Googling for IRC tutorials or IRC basics should get you going with those.
