But it's pretty hard not to given current events and some of the posts about them. Any guidance?

You can make a thread about the news on PPR, just try to avoid rape jokes.

I think there's a bit of a misunderstanding here. What I was talking about was that threads in the News and Current Events section discussing the Connecticut shooting are becoming political debates, and people who are not habitual users of the PPR forum are often not accustomed to how these things tend to work, which can lead to upset and complaints. I'm right in the thick of it right now, and I'm uncomfortable because it's been stated policy for some time that PPR has slightly different guidelines than other forums on the board, and though I'm fairly confident that I'm staying within the TOS, I don't want to get dinged for something that would be completely routine in PPR, where I do the majority of my posting. As it is I'm trying really hard not to derail threads with lengthy responses to argumentative posts, but it's a real struggle that I'm not always winning.

What I'm going to suggest is that disclaimers be put up in the relevant threads reminding people that News if for discussion and PPR is for debate, and then moving any further offending posts to PPR where there are already multiple threads discussing the shooting.

Also, I've seen this "no rape jokes" thing mentioned by a moderator before as if it was stated policy, and while I don't have a problem with that policy per se, if it's that big a deal it really should be mentioned somewhere, perhaps in the amended rules Tallyman has posted around the board. It's just with Aspies things like "no rape jokes" aren't obvious and inferred, and having a written rule in place would halt ill will and feelings of persecution.

Don't worry. We understand this is a special situation. Also, I'm sure your views about things are shared by at least a few of the moderators.

Cool, I just wanted to avoid any misunderstandings if things got more heated in there.

I agree with Alex on this one. Mr_Xxx had to move one of my threads because it was becoming a debate on gun laws and not sticking to the actual story itself.
