Avatars should be 140x140 pixels or smaller to prevent the avatars from disrupting the page layout by causing the forum posts to resize. Before today, it was possible to upoad avatars that were too big.

However, it has become too hard to manually monitor the size of avatars that break the page layout. Also, loading avatars in real time from external websites means the page will not finish loading until the external sites respond with the images, which WrongPlanet cannot control.

Consequently, you can no longer host your avatar on an external site.

However, you can specify a link to an avatar on another site in your profile and the serer will automatically upload that avatar to our local machine and test to make sure the avatar is the correct size. If the avatar is the correct size, you will be able to use it. Otherwise, you will be notified that the avatar is too large and will not be able to choose that avatar.

In the future, I will add a function to automatically resize avatars so you won't have to worry about finding one that is small enough, but in the mean time, avatars that are too large won't be accepted.

I thought 144px wide was the maximum size? I checked it myself so it would fit.

I think it's great! I get annoyed by it too!

On re-sizing, I'm tech-savvy enough to do it in Paint, but the auto-re-size would be great to have!

I need to finish that Avatar vote-off competition I had going a while back... Oh, which reminds me, is it possible to do Poll Tournaments? As in rounds? Because I find it a bit irritating having to create, like, eight topics just for this one thing. And it starts to get to Spam proportions, and was proven when a Mod (or you) deleted the topic on the final round of my Avatar tournament.
