WP is slow both at work and at the dorms, where its slowness is considerable. Home for me is my college dorm, which has a 32kbps bandwidth cap on each connection. (And they advertised it as a high-speed Internet connection). What could the problem be? Sadly, WP is almost unusable at this slow speed. I have waited ten minutes before for a page to simply refresh after I'd made a post.

Same here too, occasionally it can get a moment where it takes so long it doesn't load anything and still thinks it's done, and yet when I hit refresh it's back to normal!

Firefox sometimes presents me a box asking me to download the page as a file at times when it is taking really long to load.

Maybe the algorithm for determining whether a file is so large that it should be downloaded as a file instead of just displayed in the browser window bases its decision on a) the estimated time to download versus b) the estimated internet connection speed I have. I wonder if this could have anything to do with indeterminate page file sizes resulting from the fact that the pages are ASP generated.

I too confirm the inconsistant access.

Seems that the server doesn't respond back minutes at a time.
It's like that busy store syndrome. People come in waves, not a pure random distribution of requests.

that's when the site does its backup. it must be the backup script eating up the cpu cycles and slowing the site down.

It's around between 11PM/1AM (GMT - 5) on estimate it becomes virtually unresponsive for me (but it's not a constant blackout, it happens every so often in this time frame). It connects but it says 'Waiting for Wrongplanet.net...' and basically nothing happens until it times out or on a few occasions, I even get a 'Zero Sized Reply' Connection Error from my ISP. Just thought I'd let you know.

I also confirm the inconsistent access.

It's really slow on my end, and the connection times out.

It's proberly because this site has more people and threads and such than the bandwith can handle. I been having trouble with the same problem. I just wait 4 minutes and come back. It works for me.

we're getting a ton of requests. i'm trying to optimize the server to respond more quickly. If all else fails, I can install a caching solution.
