I rather like it actually. It's his site, and now that we can see more of him, both in pics and posts lately, it puts a more personable element here that a lot of users have complained was not there for a long time.
The man behind the curtain has drawn the curtain aside. 
I do think it would be cool to see more pics though. I'm sure a lot of us would like to see other sides of him.

I haven't seen the photos, though, because I have Adblock.

Ditto. I block the section above the menu bar and also block all that crap above the Index page. I've only got dial-up access anyway, so with limited bandwidth it is very important for me to block virtually all graphics on the site. If I allowed adverts to show the site would be virtually unusable due to the massive amount of bandwidth they consume compared to the site itself.

well, the ads don't start loading until after the page has loaded, so the speed shouldn't be too much different.

The first time I saw the ad I said "HEY L THAT'S ALEX PLANK" and she(my girlfriend) was like "Oh... OK." yeah. That's my experience with that ad! The more you know.
