Have been trying to send a PM for last hour ~ most captchas are at least partly illegible, & when you finally get one you can read you don't know if you're supposed to type the two separate words as one word or two ...or if you're supposed to put capital letters where there are capitals ~ the 'advice' section just says if you can't 'solve' one captcha just load another ...so, no real advice there. I don't mind the number sequences coz they're straight forward, but i'm getting really fed up of the word ones, especially as the machine doesn't even bother tell you what you did wrong ...it just takes you to your account page with no related message at all.
I've tried every possible solution i can think of and still no luck ... :help:

Been there, done that. I've even gotten the message "sorry no such user exists" a few times.

It seems the longer the PM is, the harder it is to get it through. CloudFlare also doesn't seem to like links, images, videos and quotes. I have been able to send such PMs by reducing such things, which I really shouldn't have to.

If you're talking about the CloudFlare CAPTCHA (the one you see on WP):

It's always two words.
The text is not case-sensitive.
The CAPTCHA is not related in any way to WP forum errors. So if you entered the CAPTCHA text and see a WP error (like "Couldn't load smilie data" or "Couldn't delete old search ID") then the CAPTCHA was correct. Simply reload the page.

Hope that helps.

Dear skilpadde, you're right about size / content; tiny & quote-free = no problem ...so sent my long PM in two halves, which seemed to help ...some. Sadly, the time it takes to send messages and then return to account, or to search forums and change topic page etc, is eating tons of phone's web credit ...is almost as bad as watching youtube! Am going to have to drastically reduce my visits till i get a computer ...keep looking after the turtles! (ps: i love savethefrogs too :bounce:

Glad my tip was helpful. It's really annoying that it's necessary though.

I wouldn't know what it's like to browse with a phone, I only use PC for surfing.

I will! Turtles and frogs are great! I just checked out savethefrogs

so THAT's what it is? i get it now, i've been only getting the captchas when PMing one member and they don't show up before i've written much of my responses.
but when they do and i get them incorrect, invariably a "smilies data" error occurs and i get sent back to my general inbox when i pass it and if i did not copy it beforehand i will have to write them all over! if there is a certain character limit that prompts captchas when passed, i wonder what it is...

i think my favorite captcha was "service servigny". the "servigny" just looked french to me.

I've also only had problems sending to one member, but that makes sense as that person is the only one I have ever sent long messages to.

I have learned the hard way to always copy before posting when it's more than a few words.

If you ever find what that limit may be, please share!

It's not unlimited how long a PM can be. I once sent one so long that not all of it went through. It was cut off, so only roughly the first 70% of it was sent. The post limit on many forums is 60 000 characters. Maybe that's the case for PMs too. no message popped up that not all had been sent, I only saw it because I opened it again. So the last part had to be sent again. A good thing I had it all in Word where I wrote it! (All 25 pages of it; yeah it was ridiculously long). It's by far the longest I've ever sent.

25 pages! 8O
the longest i have sent was i believe 8 or 9 pages in word, i just measured it.

what i do when i save it, is instead of saving it in an external word processor i paste it in a seperate PM to myself and send it so it all stays on the site. my inbox is full of messages from Kiprobalhato about others. :P

but yes, only one member, i actually had a thought or two that cloudflare was conscious and did not want me to associate with that person...

Well, 24 pages and 1/3 of one more page to be exact. Font: Calibri, text size 11.

I didn't even know we could PM ourselves on here! I just tried it, and I received a very nice PM from someone named Skilpadde  Thanks for that tip, Kip!

Maybe CloudFlare's true name is Skynet. It's really annoying though when it happens.

also i never get a captcha, ever, when i PM myself. i don't know why it would display one in that case anyway.
