Question about banned users

How come some users are visibly banned and some are not? I know tyri0n is banned, but it doesn't say he's banned under his username.

I think the words banned appear under a username when its done by alex than by the other mods and admins.

really? i've been wondering about that, previously i've had to go to old threads, and old pages of long running threads to see the X on banned users, and when i saw it reappear recently i was a bit surprised. i thought it had been discontinued. then again, we've likely never before had a situation before where alex was the only one with the banhammer.
