The old WP, PRE-November, whatever, 2014?

There are, of course, advantages and DISadvantages, if this would happen.....

ADVANTAGE: We'd get-back a "proper" UCP (User Control Panel), where we could have proper ages, put-in, change our signatures, and have "Custom Ranks", and all sorts of other stuff!

The avatar sizes have been changed----some being too small, some being ridiculously too large----but, I think that has something to do with changing them, to allow for better / faster loading of pages, maybe, since more ads, have been added.....

DISADVANTAGE: We would get-back all the old site's glitches----but, at this point, they seem fewer than what we've got, NOW!

I never thought there was ONE THING wrong with the AESTHETICS of the old site----it was the FUNCTIONING, of it, IMO.

They could continue to work-on the NEW site, behind-the-scene----but, then we'd have to go-through another changeover, and that doesn't sound appealing.....

This new site is just such a drag, sometimes, right now, because of all the glitches.

Any thoughts.....?

I hate to complain because I know Alex doesn't have to do this at all, but....this site is still the worse functioning site I've ever been on. I like the removal of the old glitches and how smooth it usually runs now. I love the "View Posts Since Last Visit". But I don't like the age setting glitch (even though I found a way around it). I don't like not being able to edit my signature. I miss having a custom user title (and everyone elses funny ones). The forums I'm on that are all:"Powered by vBulletin" work much much better.

Yeah, this is definitely the more buggy site I've ever been on too. I'm used to it now, though. Like sometimes wrongplanet just doesn't load even though other web pages load fine, the whole messages system is acting up again, we had the korean spammers, there were issues with cloudflare, there are problems with the ucp not fully being functional... but it works. I don't like complaining because this is a fairly small site with a small community, and an even smaller team of moderators trying to keep things running smoothly. But I'd be lying if I said it was without its errors. :|

Compared with some other sites I've been on, this one works pretty well.

But I agree with EzraS - the bugs that stop you showing your age and being able to use a signature have been around for months, and need fixing urgently (mods & Alex please note).

BTW EzraS, I love your new avatar! :D

Campin_Cat: You know that phrase "you don't realize what you have until it's gone"? I think it applies here lol.

Yeah, I know wha'cha mean----that's sorta what I was saying about going-through another changeover didn't seem very appealing.

Neither:
It should not be a choice of which is less bad but of moving forward.

The main selling point of the new site was supposed to be speed but it is much much slower now and inconstantly slow. For awhile it works like a regular website then freezes or slows to as crawl for a few minutes. Lost posts when freezing on preview or submit. Always on the longer posts or the ones I put the most emotion into it seems (and of course forgot write into Word first). Of course I 'have" to finish what I started so that means going to sleep later than intended. No it is not my computers or the browsers I use, other websites and forums work fine 98% of the time. Lots of clicking out of the site completely to go back in.

If it is still possible I would go back to the old site, scrap this entirely and start a new site from scratch because this project is too far down the rabbit hole*.

The new site works for the most part for me other than the known glitches, the old was a lot worse as far as errors and whatnot and I think it held up better for me than it did for some people at the time. It is frustrating tho since it seems like this forum doesn't really get much support, what software does it use? I've been on forums that use vB or Yuku and the problems seem to be taken care of way quicker. It's hard to run these forums without having anybody on staff that knows how to troubleshoot these technical issues, I would look for some dedicated volunteers.

The old site loaded very slowly sometimes, taking minutes. I got sick of it. The new site started off well in that regard but recently it's happening a lot on both my Windows laptop and iPhone.

The new site is far buggier than the old one.

The color scheme of the old site was better.

The new site is hard to use on the mobile as you can't zoom in.

I like the new site's feature that lets you know if someone has posted just before you try to post, enabling you to edit your post or decide not to post (useful in "Interview the person below you").

I also like the new site's black dot that appears to the left of the thread title in the thread list page (for threads you have posted to). It doesn't always work though.

And I think there are some more pros and cons. Considering all those points, I think the combination of both would be nice.

If you want to return to the old color scheme, I'll pointcha to the directions, for it. I have the old blue / green----it's WONDERFUL!!.

Yeah, I like that, as well.

I want the better looking old site back without the bugs. At least it had custom rank, gender and signature. I understand that Alex is trying to find someone to help out with fixing it but I liked the old site better because of it's less scroll heavy layout. At least I finally figured out a way to change my userpic.

Yeah, there's entirely too much scrolling needing to be done, now----for instance, it USED to be that when the post-box page opened, the cursor automatically went to the first position in the box; now you have to scroll-down, click in the box, and so-forth. Also, after you click "Submit", and it takes you to the "Information Page", that says "Your post has been entered successfully" (or, whatever it says), you have to scroll-down, to click-on the link, VIEW your message----it's STILL quite a pain!!

Also, AntDog, as I posted earlier, if you want to return to the FABULOUS blue / green, of the old site, I can give you directions, to do that----I'VE done it, and I am SOOOOOO grateful, not to have all that horrible WHITE!!

Yeah, that not knowing someone's gender is a pain-in-the-BUTT, when addressing them, and wanting to use the appropriate pronouns----that's why I put MINE, in my signature----but, nobody can make a signature, now.

I would LOVE to go-back to the old site; but, I would bet, almost anything, that AP didn't back-up the old site----hence, it's gone, forever.

Actually, yes. The only thing I like about the new site is the ability to use https Youtube links in embeds. That's it. The old site was much better, warts and all.

Yes. The old site back, the sooner the better.
