Every time I have clicked on a certain poster's name, I order to see his or her 'Viewing Profile', I get the above message. This hasn't happened with any other poster's name. Is this a malfunction, or is there something in the personal settings which allows this?

The person has likely been banned, even though his or her posts are still readable.

Oh goody, now we get to see who is banned before we mention their names. That makes it a lot easier to follow the rule about talking about banned members.

Thank you for the replies, though I'm not 100% certain what League Girl is getting at!

The poster in question doesn't show up as 'banned' in the list of Registered Users, and has in fact posted at least twice in the last few hours. Nor does he or she sound like the sort of person who is courting a ban, from the posts I've read. The mystery deepens....

I was wondering about the same thing, too. I think there were a few users, clicking the link to whose profile page opened a page with the error message "The requested user does not exist.". I cannot remember who they were but they didn't seem to have been banned because they were active posters at the time.

I think we are not allowed to discuss banned members but sometimes there is no way of knowing if someone has been banned. So you might talk about someone in one of the threads, not knowing he/she's been banned and get told not to discuss him/her as he/she is a banned member.

Yep.

I have gotten that message too in regards to two members. No idea why.
Before the upgrade I would sometimes get the message "sorry no such user exists" about a person I PM'ed (the same member every time, never with anyone else, despite her not being banned).

I've gotten this message when clicking on the name of a particular user that posted a thread in the "Autism Politics, Activism and Media Representation" forum. I'm not sure what means and I've asked this question before.

Back in 2008-2010, the former mods here would send you a warning if you talked about a banned member here and they seemed to expect you to know who was banned. I got in trouble for it too once and I pissed off the mod when I told her I didn't know they were banned and bam she was nasty with me. I was really upset because I was accused of knowing that person was banned and also I got a nasty final warning for telling her I didn't know he was banned. We were all expected to be psychic and read their minds.

^ Thanks for making things a bit clearer. :D

I'm a relative newcomer to WP compared with you, but I think the current set of mods do a pretty good job in circumstances which often seem quite 'challenging'.

Where do you find this list?

Thanks. I actually had already found the list, but the search function on this link is useful too.

Sorry for not acknowledging your query TheAP, but I hadn't visited the 'Wrongplanet.net discussion' section for a couple of weeks, and assume this thread was no longer active.

Campin_Cat, that's an interesting link - is there any way that search facility is accessible by a more conventional method (ie without having that link?). I noticed also that the version of the membership list you supplied only goes up to October 2008 - any idea why that should be?

That's all right, I found it anyway.
