How do you display your age?

When posting on forums, I see some members have their age listed along with their join date and number of posts under their avatar, but despite putting my date of birth into the 'edit profile' section, mine doesn't show up. Can someone please tell me how to fix this?

Go to Edit Profile
scroll down to date of birth
dd-m-yyyy
Example for December 5, 2015 write 5-12-2015

i have had to set my birth year one year earlier to get mine to display correctly.
