This forum seems to have a obligatory and exclusive male/female marker. Please immediately correct me on this if I am mistaken!

Within a single minute I could come up with multiple issues with this:

- There are tons of people who identify outside of the gender binary (man-woman). Even more so on the autism spectrum than anywhere else!
- The forum marks gender, but the options are sex. Male/female is biological sex, not gender identidy
- There are not only [fe]male humans, intersex is the third biological sex option
- Some people are not comfortable or simply see no relevance in giving away this medical fact
- It should absolutely be optional, not obligatory
- If you want people to write something about themselves, why don't you let them fill in a blank, like in the biography section? No need to go all Facebook and tweak the site to give us 500 gender identities, that's uncalled for.

This is not politically correct crowd pleasing, the current options simply are incorrect terminology and I would expect fellow compulsively pendantic autistic people to do better. My gender is definitely not "female", my sex is. And why would I want to have this publically displayed? My sex organs are not relevant to anybody on this website, I can guarantee that much

This forum needs to update itself to 2015, not only with this topic, but in many areas.

I have been browsing a bit tonight and it seems that many members are upset with some mechanics or options here and there. Would it be a goliath project to revamp the forum?

Actually, the new options are male/female or choose not to disclose. You no longer have to disclose whether you are male or female anymore but you can identify as either if you do.

I joined recently and I though the options were fine.

Maybe. Maybe not.

Either way, there would still be people complaining endlessly about inconsequential details.

i think there is an option in registration that is to not disclose at all. it doesn't seem to be available anywhere else. you can always elaborate in your signature if you want....

I am wondering where one can even go to update their gender marker on this forum. When I initially signed up, I hadn't yet accepted many things about myself, including my sexuality and gender. So, at the time I registered as male. I would like to get this updated. I tried digging thru the settings from my android phone, couldn't find it, so tried from my Windows tablet. It's like it's only an option at signup. I realize I haven't been active on this forum in a couple years, but may be coming back some.

Easy - just put in your sig line whatever you want other people to know about you.

For example, I could easily have a sig line that says, "Middle-aged gynotropic cis-male in a committed monogamous relationship with an androtropic cis-woman", instead of what I already have.

Try it, it's easy!

Problem solved.

The problem will be solved when the signature display works which is not now.

Your signature display seems to be working just fine. So is mine.

You may be looking only for the solution that you want, instead of wanting the solution that you have.

That is true. I would want a solution where when it does not ask you to enter your birth date as mm-dd-yyyy when you actually have to enter dd-mm-yyyy form. I would like to have the option to attach, post, and edit a signature in the same place. I would like a solution where if the the software asks you for a diagnosis status you do not have to enter it in another place to have it display.

I will try and not make the mistake of expecting Wrong Planet's software to be any more user friendly then at a level that would have gotten me fired in an hour had I written it 3 decades ago.

So ... you want Alex to adapt this website to suit you, rather than learn how the website operates and adapt yourself accordingly.

Send him a PM.

I want him to adopt it to suit most users. I would expect the minimal basic standards of user friendliness that nearly
every other website or forum I have visited since the late 1990's adhear to whether I particularly like it or not. I hate most of the designing Apple does. Just because I will never understand or feel comfortable with thier designing does not change the that fact they are the most user friendy computer designers ever and are hugely wealthy because of it. That is not the case here as there is thread after thread complaining about how this website works or does not work.

This is forum was originally meant to help people who have difficulties communicating be able to communicte with each other. I can not see how throwing more obstacles in the way of us communicating can be defended. Can do it and should do it are two different concepts.

Yet it always seems to be the same people complaining - regardless of what they're complaining about - while the rest of us adapt and adjust to the way things are and get along just fine.

How would you know that the people who are not complaining are happy and fine about this website? Maybe from social rejection they are meek and do not want to make waves, or maybe they just have poor initiation skills, not an uncommon traits for those on the the spectrum, or maybe they just stopped posting here, or maybe like me dispite finding the software hard to use but get enough benefit to stay.

I know if I had a full time job and did not have a lot of extra time from bieng in rehab recovering from serious illnesses I would not be here because time would be too precious to be wasting it filling out captchas
