Every time I try to post a comment in a thread the stupid Captcha feature doesn't work so I can't submit my comment. How do I get around this or fix it?

Copy what you wrote before you try to post it. Then finish captcha, it should work. Sometimes the captcha is weird and requires a few tries. Its worked every time for me now, so hopefully it works for you.

Nah, I've had that problem before and this isn't the same. With this error, when I finish typing my comment and click on the green submit button and it takes me to the captcha screen, the captcha itself is broken and doesn't show up, so I can't enter anything because the field doesn't even show up, let alone the catpcha image with the code in it. I can't get past the captcha screen for this reason, I can't even enter the code because there is no image with the code in it, only an error message.

Of course my comments are posting in THIS thread with no errors and no trouble at all.

Does your message have a bunch of urls in it? That seems to set it off for me, and copying it, opening a new tab, and posting the reply from that tab usually works, at least in my experience.

I think this just happened to me.

Typed a post, didn't copy it before trying to submit it, captcha page showed up with no captcha image and no place to type the response for the (nonexistant) captcha image, just a box with an error message and a "submit" button below the error message -- over and over and over (tried to refresh the page and hopefully resend the info that was my post each time).

Finally gave up and clicked the "back" button and, of course, my post was gone.

I had no urls in my post.

This is giving me trouble too...Again.

Alex Plank, is it really asking too much to have a forum that is not so buggy?

Same here. I had a long post I made a small edit to, and it just wouldn't post. Kept going round in a loop. I copied the text to wordpad for safekeeping, but it just wouldn't work. I deleted the post and tried to re-post, but it's just going round and round. Click submit, do captcha, taken to blank reply box. Paste, click submit, captcha, blank reply box. Managed to get a small test post. I'll try the longer one again later.

Had a similar problem with a smaller post earlier. In that one I was quoting. Took the quotes out (as others had suggested), and it seemed to work. I wonder about the efficacy of a spam filter that triggers more with quote-posts, or triggers at all when editing. Does it actually work? Would there be a lot more spam without the filter?

CAPTCHA is easier to get past on a computer.

When using a mobile device, it can be a nightmare. And it happens even though I don't have a quote in my post or anything else that posters suggest will make the CAPTCHA not allow you to post. It mostly happens if I spend too long writing a post, and I have nowhere on my phone to paste it to. You can see how frustrating that can be.

I thought that after the site maintenance, these bots would be sorted out, so that there's no more CAPTCHA for us.

I wouldn't mind Captcha if it worked. Write a reply or post, get Captcha, get it right, post goes through - that wouldn't be a problem.

My worry is that, having spent ten minutes doing Captcha and continually being taken back to a 'Post a reply' box (gave up in the end), that this somehow records as Captcha succesfully repelling a bot/spam attack.

How much potential spam does it stop compared to proper posts by members?

Considering that there are concerted spam attacks at least once a day pretty much every day on this site lately, it would seem that the Captcha feature is basically useless, as well as glitchy.

Alex can't be bothered.

I'm having the same problem in the Haven. I've tried for what must have been 20 or more times, but I keep getting stuck in the loop of going back to the "post a reply" box. I've even tried a different browser and restarting my computer. No luck.

I guess this must not be happening on Alex's computer.

Yes, I am having this problem too. In most threads I don't have to do Captcha at all, but there are a couple threads I can't post in because of the problem that you guys described.

Exactly. I think my problem is different, since I type in a comment, it takes me to the captcha and then does the exact same thing once I've clicked submit again on my post. Is that the same issue that everybody is facing or slightly different?

Actually, I'm not having the Captcha error anymore, but I am finding myself stuck in loop when trying to post in some threads while others I can post in with no trouble, as well. I keep getting taken back to the "post a reply" page after entering the Captcha code and hitting submit; I've tried copying and pasting my post and it just keeps taking me back to the "post a reply" page after submitting so I just give up. It's very frustrating. The site just seems full of bugs lately.
