Ah, but we are able to post, which is way better than it was a few days ago!
(trying to look on the bright side) :)

Is that what was happening? There was some weird stuff and I had no idea what it was. I even saw posts with missing words that reappeared later on.

The captcha was not preventing spammers from spamming. It was only preventing veteran members from posting.

The captchas delay (or even unintentionally stop) you from replying to existing threads. In fact they even stop you from NOT posting. Half of the time I write I end up clicking the "cancel" button- and I STILL get a captcha to make sure that I am not robot who is choosing NOT to post!

But the spammers (the snake oil salesmen from Mumbai) dont reply to existing threads. They make original posts.

So whats the point of the captchas? That just monitor the site from an angle that the enemy never attacks from.

Yeah, I noticed that the people who do this just make a new account and lie about being 'diagnosed' and then just have open run to do as they wish.

But I really don't see a way to stop that without making things onerous on the real members.

I've not had a single Captcha problem for the last two days. Not one. And, I've been trying to keep track of what any changes in how I posted to make some sort of correlation. Interestingly, the last thing I did just before the trouble went away was completely clear out my browser cache *and* cookies. If that's connected, it is a brute force approach (since I cleared *everything* & the problem is probably just one item) but it may work?

It is better on the mobile, but I still have to wait to see if I get bounced back to a blank message page.

So, 50% better. I'll take it.

Which yet again brings up the eternal question of why in the numerous hells they even bother using that godawful service.

Really, if this wasnt the only decent autism community I'd ever encountered, Cloudflare's mere presence would have caused me to leave this place like a year ago. It's THAT bad.

If it AT LEAST had the decency to stop some spammers (you know, the ENTIRE BLOODY POINT OF CAPTCHAS) it wouldnt be so bad. But it's function is LITERALLY BACKWARDS. Lets spammers in. Stops actual users (tries to, anyway; it's so bloody dumb that it's easily thwarted).

How useful. Sigh.

EDIT: Surprise! It tried to do it just now. Surprise! It failed miserably and I stopped it without effort. Good for you, Cloudflare. Good for you.

This Capcha is really irritating and I can't even post half the time. It's even on the Preview which it is totally uncalled for. And I agree, it isn't going to keep the spammers out.

Share? It keeps blocking me. I'm surprised if I'm even able to post this.

A problem I haven't seen discussed is that photo captchas are bad for autistic people. It's only a minor problem, and I don't have a better solution, but it's about being literal minded. Here are the examples I had today:

Which photo contains grass? My answer: nearly all of them. That mountain almost certainly has grass on it somewhere.

Which photo contains a waterfall? My answer: nearly all of them. Again that mountain almost certainly has one on it somewhere - let me squint at that gray pixel.

Which photo contains a river? My answer, again, probably all the outdoor ones. Those rocks are the grand canyon, I know there's a river at the bottom.

Which photo contains a sandwich? My answer: none of them. I live in Britain: we call those things burgers, not sandwiches.

etc., etc. Not a huge problem, but it really slows me down.
