If you knew that you had only a limited number of posts to make on this website, what would you post?

If you knew that after you had used up your allotted posts you could never log on to this site again, what kinds of posts would you make?

Would you only debate the electability of your favorite candidate, while denouncing all opposing candidates with every insult and foul name you can think of?

Would you only argue with the moderators because one of them did something you don't like, and which you have been doing to everyone else since your first post?

Would every one of your posts be an infodump of every detail from your latest emotionally-charged encounter with another human being?

Would you post only unpopular opinions, and for the sole purpose of reporting everybody who disagrees with you as "trolls"?

Would you post only criticisms of this website, its founder, its moderators, and the rules they try to enforce?

Would every one of your posts consist solely of quotes, smilies, off-site links, and reiterations of what someone else has already posted?

Or would you try to post helpful, thoughtful, and uplifting ideas and short essays on concepts and observations you have made in the last week?

The reason I bring this up is that I've set a limit on the number of posts I make on this website. 30,000 seems to be enough, and even though it is not a hard-and-fast limit, I see little reason to say again what has already been said, or to re-visit topics that have already been settled. I may or may not log back in just to see what's going on, but ... :: shrug ::

But I digress ... this post's topic arises from the question "If you had only 24 hours left to live, how would you spend it?"

If new members were told that they could post only a hundred, a thousand, or even ten-thousand times, and then they could never post on this website again, what do you think would happen? I think there would be a rush at first to post as often as possible and on as many topics as possible. Then, as time went on, we would see each successive post from any one member becoming more thoughtful as that member realized "Hey, time's running out! I gotta make this next one better than the last, or what will people think of me after I'm gone?"

Or maybe some people's posts would become progressively more outrageous, right up until their final post when they bust loose with every violation of The Rules that then can fit on a page, knowing full well that wielding the Banhammer against them at this point would be pointless.

Who knows? Maybe it would be worth setting up a website for the sole purpose of finding out. Maybe the only rules would be:

1. Use your real name and address in every post (automatic sig line).
2. Post anything you want.
3. You have only 'X' number of posts.
4. Once you've used up your post count, you can make no more posts.

I wonder what would happen ... ?

As one gets older and posts more on WP, one realizes that most topics come and go over and over again. Some topics need to be discussed, some are people socializing through the glowing tablet or blue screened box, and some are people trying to make a difference in the world. I generally post when I have a question or comment about a topic that I think would add value (or I'd ask by PM), or when there's a topic that needs to be raised.

When you reach Lastday, I would advise against going for renewal. Instead, seek the legendary sanctuary.

There is life after 30, and posts after 30,000.

Try not to get sidetracked by shiny boxes of distraction on the way, lest you find youself caught for ever in some static dead end.

A life well lived is not about arbitrary milestones, but rather the process of living.

I would post random useless shite, as always.
Random useless shite is what life is all about.

Why would anybody put their real address on their signature? That would be really dumb.

Well said.

When I get to 30,000, I'll get a Wolfie Rating.

I'd just post useless rubbish, like I do now. Don't care enough to leave a lasting impression. It's just a forum that has no impact on my real life whatsoever.

I'd be like "f**k this noise" and find an alternative site to post on. I'm sure plenty of others here would do the same, and I would join them.

if you're going for 30000, you should go for 33333 instead. or maybe a number that spells something in 1337speak. maybe 80085 :)

i would just scan the site for people i might be interested in talking to further than the set limit, and i'd gather their contact info (and then i'd possibly start my own website). all else would be secondary

I'm not sure why you're bothering going to 30000. Why not just leave?

As for me, I have no real investment in this place and am considering an indefinite hiatus myself. Having a limited number of posts wouldn't change much.

Hehe, I tried that! 4,444. You can see it worked..

The way I look at it is, is that I've been a member here since 2006. I already look cool. :P If I just left my post count at a certain number, I'd eventually be forgotten about. I want to remind everyone that I exist, and well, that I'm cooler than all of you.

The responses to the OP suggest a difference between a site dedicated to the advancement of the Neurodiverse, and a social site for the Neurodiverse. While there would be no hypothetical conflict between the two, there seems to be a clear difference between sites that cater to one or the other.

I once left a site on 22,222 posts. I kept deleting my posts so I could get more.

I don't think anyone would join a site that artificially limited them.

I think posts would get longer, but not necessarily better. People would want to post every reason they could think of to support something, rather than make three or four posts having a dialogue and coming to a new understanding.
