Active Discussions aren't

After seeing no activity within the "Active Discussions" list, I went looking around the subforums and found many topics just minutes old ... yet, not listed in the list. So, I tried activating the various scripts that my computer usually prevents. Nothing worked to change the list's topics.
Just wondering how this happened.
