Yes it happens to me too at 7pm (GMT - 10) which I think is the same as AHayes' time zone.

I'm curious - WP doesn't log you out even if you close the link. Does that tax the server? And why do they do that anyway? It's annoying to have to remember to log out every time, or else you're logged in here forever.

I didn't realize that the site wasn't logging me off. The only time that I could see all the boards is after one of these crashes - otherwise I had to use IE, which is really sad, because I installed FF for this site.

I doubt logins create the load. Its people actively using their account triggering some
slow PHP coded processes to run in combination with one major PHP coded process starting at around 12 AM CDT.

Okay I vaguely get what you're saying. However, I don't think it has much to do with the number of people on - in my experience midnight CDT is not the busiest time for this site.

There used to be actual statistics here where you could look at stuff like this, but they seem to have disappeared (along with a LOT of other things )

If the actions of the members creates alot of changes to the database and the database does a complete rebuild at 12 AM CDT then more actions from members during the day will results in more time(CPU cycles) needed for rebuilding the database at night.
