Am I doing something wrong with Private Messaging?

I have managed to send one private message successfully so far ~ but the second attempt does not appear to have gone through; with exception to the quote of the response to my first reply.

Is there perhaps a word limit involved ~ as that which I wrote is not on record as having been sent?

I have tried to send another copy of the second message with an explanation of perhaps (and quite likely) my error ~ but keep getting the robot test with recognising shop fronts, walkways and sign post images, and on completion ~ nothing but a blank private message board and no acknowledgement or record of the message having been sent.

Am I doing something wrong which is most likely ~ or is there something going wrong with the website?

It seems to be a Cloudflare-related thing, and it's been occurring on and off for a few years. There've been a lot of threads about it, such as this one: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=320329.

There have been suggestions that it's triggered by the use of quotes, by certain 'keywords', or simply by posts that are too long. A lot of remedies have been suggested, but few, if any, seem to help.

I would recommend keeping a copy of your post, if it's a longish one, but don't use the WP 'Draft' mechanism, as Cloudflare can wipe these as well. As a last resort, you could try taking a screenshot of your post, uploading to an image hosting site, then inserting into your post as a picture file.

As I've said, this issue tends to come and go, and doesn't seem to affect all members at the same time. If all else fails, you might just have to wait for the problem to go away.

Thanks so much for your response ~ stress sorter factor ten with the link. I was doing the saving before sending thing, and along with using [bold text] rather than [quote text] I got the message sent by way of your link and following this advice from which:

I have had this problem, and I find that there is a way to get around it (which has always worked for me).
1. Write message to post
2. Copy message
3. Click 'Submit' button
CAPTCHA comes up.
4. Click 'I am not a robot' box
5. Complete puzzle and click 'Verify' button
CAPTCHA deletes message and reverts to 'Post a reply' page.
6. Click 'Cancel' button
7. Click 'Post Reply' button
8. Paste the message text
9. Click 'Submit' button
CAPTCHA does not come up and message is posted.

This works for me.

So thanks again DeepHour for your assistance, and very much appreciated it is too :D

That method was a bit 'hit and miss' for me, but glad it's worked for you and will hopefully continue to do so!

:D

Do you use another method then perhaps?

No, because I've not had this issue for ages (then again, I've been away from the site for around 18 months during the last two years). On the occasions when I had such problems prior to that, I'd just mess around removing quotes or links, breaking the post up into smaller chunks, or just repeatedly resubmitting - sometimes this stuff worked, and sometimes I just had to admit defeat.

Seem to remember this occurring more with PMs, but I think it can happen with forum posts as well.
