Well, I joined a couple of weeks ago and had already chosen my username before coming across the sticky posts and discussions recommending anonymity and also noting that deleting your account is impossible.

I’m trying to work out how much I care personally & can see that some people use their names.

This post is also a test as I’ve realised that I can change my nickname and display that instead of my username.

Having posted this, I see that my username still shows. Am I understanding the purpose of “nickname” in my profile correctly?

I have asked on several occasions in this forum what a WP 'nickname' is, what its purpose is, and how (if at all) it differs from a WP user name. I've never received a meaningful answer or any answer at all, come to think of it. Does anyone here actually know?

Neither non-staff members nor mods can change anyone's username.

I have no idea what the nickname is for either.

It's either a feature that never worked or was rendered useless by the 2014 revamp.
