Someone in another thread mentioned that he blocks a post (or the member who posted it?) when someone attacks him. Where can I find that block button?

There is no block button for members/posts. There is a block button for PMs, but it's non-functional.

Instead of blocking (same as ignoring, really) the best thing to do when you see a post that you think is breaking the rules is to use the "Report" button, available on every post.

Private Messages can be blocked.  The set-up involves putting the offending member on one's "Foes" list, and then filtering incoming posts to reject those same "Foes".

I thought that thing was broken... :chin:
Oh well - the same applies to PMs as well as posts: report, don't ignore.

I’m confused. How are members claiming to block other members? Does specific software actually work for this?

There is an entirely unofficial scripting system which is supposed to be able to block members but I don't think it works on quotes of the blocked member. It also requires some technical expertise to install and maintain it.

But there is no built-in method of blocking posts - well, other than just skipping over them.

You have to go through this procedure to put someone on ignore: viewtopic.php?t=167309&start=80

I actually thought that there was a blocking function on WP. Was there at one point?

Never, as far as I know.

It does not.

As you implied, the best tool for blocking unpleasant posts is to simply ignore them.

 I only wish I had applied it more often!
