I just noticed that individual posts have a scroll function, is this a new function or am I mad (I know both can be true)

Sorry, maybe it's a firefox feature as it disappears when I change the page magnification

Looks like standard page scroll behavior - if the page is too large for the screen/display area, show scrollbars. Otherwise, don't.
