How come there isn't a medication section to the forums? I think it would be helpful.

Because medication is brain-poison.

Seems pointless to me.

It would be nice as most talk about medication is spread out over the site. The search engine is now limited to a google search of the site. So it will be a crude way to look up things. You can post threads about meds related to autism spectrum and other comorbid issues to it (nearly everything) in the General Autism sub forum.

Netsavy006 I recognise your user name from the ADD forum(I'm Theta). Welcome to WP. :)

That's a good idea. If there are enough medicine threads to warrant a new section, it may work. New forums die if there isn't already a large amount of postings on the subjects.

I'm willing to do the work of moving all the old threads on meds there. But some are in the members only section so perhaps the med section would have to be members only.

Yes, I think it would be an excellent idea to have a Med forum. It is an issue that concerns many of us, particularly those with co-morbids such as depression, OCD and ADHD.

If you need a so called "med expert" I know lots about psychotropics. I don't want to be a mod and please don't make me one, but I'm just saying if anyone needs help, they can count on me. Just email me though my profile.

I remember this being brought up a while back, and I think one big risk is that we have to trust that people know what they're talking about, when it comes to advice on what medicine to take. It'd be a good place for discussion, and it'd free up Autism Discussion and The Haven of those "Do/did you take XXX?" threads. However we'd have to debate on where "Would you want a cure" threads would have to go, wouldn't we?

Agreed, the meds I took when I was 12 years old nearly killed me.

While all is true I'd be willing to help make threads for the med section should one be made. I've taken loads of meds and am willing to make threads/posts, about my experience.

The difficulty with medications is that everyone will react differently to any given medication. What works great for one person may work only a little for someone else, may not work at all for a third person, and could have all manner of side effects for a fourth.

I was on plenty of different medications myself, and none of them had any lasting results. That shouldn't be taken as a sign that those medications aren't effective, merely that they were not for me. I've heard of people that took the exact same medications, even at the same dosages, that had a lot of success with them. That shouldn't be taken as a sign that the medications are going to be effective.

Something else to consider is that it is illegal in some parts (and imprudent all over the world) to give out amateur medical and drug advice without the proper disclaimers. Having a meds section sounds like it could be a liability for Alex.

What about the threads that talk about taking illegal pyschoactive substances? Some impressionable people could think it's a good idea to take them without considering the physical harm they could do to themselves.

Honestly, I have no idea. I used to go to a forum that was run by a large non-profit organization and their lawyers advised them not to allow medical advice to be administered on the forums, but people certainly did talk about past drug use. I think any advice regarding how to obtain or use drugs was probably censored though. I'm not sure how much the maintainer of a community is held legally responsible for the behavior that goes on therein.
