There should be a History forum in the Special Interest section.

Can't you just post a thread on the specific historical event or time period somewhere in there if you want to discuss it?

Ditto that. :) History threads are most welcome and could fit under a number of the existing headings.

So would a history thread go in "Philosophy Politics and Religion" or "Random"?

Eh, this is just my take on it, but...

goal of thread is discussion: random
goal of thread is debate: PP&R

Not to say that a post in any area won't wind up turning into a debate, but at least there's a better chance. :P

Also might depend on the subject matter. Subjects that have a clear emphasis on politics would possibly be better suited for PP&R. Historical events or figures, probably Random.

ok... here's my take on it...

Why not title a post;

HISTORY: AUSTRALIA - Was the Eureka Stockade of 1854 the Defining Moment in Australian History

or

HISTORY: CHINA - Lets talk about China in the 1800s?

ie: Vague or Specific, you can make the topics very easy to locate.

you could take off the HISTORY: AUSTRALIA part since you already put that at the end of the title.

I could, I guess I was just trying to get things to sort

ie:

HISTORY: AUSTRALIA - xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Q1
HISTORY: AUSTRALIA - xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Q2
HISTORY: CHINA - xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
HISTORY: UK - xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
HISTORY: US - xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
HISTORY: US - xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
HISTORY: US - xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

If there shouldn't be a history subforum, there shouldn't be a news subforum.

It would be the same type of discussion, only about the past instead of the present;
same form of conversation with the difference being the time of the events/situations.

Keeping it out of PPR would discourage the PPR-bridge-keepers' attitude from wandering over and raising trouble. Also it would mean less clutter for Random and more diversity of topics.

If you see the universe as existing for 13.7 gigayears then there have been a lot more events happening in the past then there are currently or will in our lifetimes. Even in the course of recorded human history, what is 60-135 years compared to 6000 years?

You have a wide range of topics: Ancient, Medieval, Renaissance; Science, Technology, Governments; Wars, Movements, Documents; Continents, Nations, States, Cities; Etcetera. All of these items from the past where the developments and thoughts and progressions can be seen and discussed.

A History subforum would be awesome.

Rename the PPR forum to "serious debate forum".

It would just make things too complicated and confusing, as the two intertwine in discussion.

Anubis, why did your age go from 17 to 136 back to 17? 8P

What do you think about the History forum idea?
