comet, although I'm just an average member of wrongplanet, I can explain

the chatroom is an IRC (internet relay chat) channel called #wrongplanet on an irc network called freenode, IRC doesn't support what you are asking for, it would require another type of chat system that would be inconvenient for some of us

the java chat is pretty user friendly anyway

There are two i think. because the Java one looks Different then The IRC one. I think there is a third too, because someone sent me a link to one that looked much different. anyway the chat gives me bad vibes.

Hosting an IRC server is quite resource intensive, computer, bandwidth and monetary. You need to be able to handle the idiotic random DDoS attacks, trustworthy individuals to be responsible for updating servers (operating system and the ircd (IRC Server) itself) as well as the services package.

The reason the majority of the IRC names appear to be already used is the chatroom is on a fairly large IRC Network with many many chatrooms at once and many many users.

Its just dont see it being feasable.
