Ok folks, I'd really like to know the real reason WHY there is a gender-specific forum here on WP for women.....I heard through the grapevine that there was one for men but it was deleted. Seems to me that there are plenty of other forums on the web that are specifically for women-places where women can feel "safe" and where male posters are barred.

The gender-specific forums were created with the intention of providing a space for the discussion of AS issues that are impacted by one's gender. I've read that the Men's Discussion forum was deleted for a variety of reasons including frequent breaking of the rules, general consensus of a lack of need for such a forum, and a majority of members wishing to use the space for another purpose.

Like I always say, I personally see no need for the Women's Discussion forum either. But it's there and women do use it respectfully.

Well then, so be it. I guess women will have to put up with guys posting there-so long as they're not too vulgar and dont denegrate women.

There's one thing that confuses me about the women's forum. If it is specifically for women, then why is it that new threads posted in that forum are listed on the main page along with the other new threads? New threads in the adult forum, which has an age limit, aren't listed there. Couldn't this basically be like inviting men to participate, while discouraging women from posting threads on more "women only" topics (for lack of a better descriptive phrase)?

It's not blocked from use by males. They are permitted to read threads, respond to threads, and create new threads in that forum. The only restriction is if a woman creates a thread and specifically asks for no male input. That's one reason that I don't see the need for the forum. If it were made private, it would create an air of secrecy and division (bad idea, imho). And since it's -not- private, I certainly would never post anything I didn't want a man to read.
