Hey! I'd like to suggest a forum for us GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender) folk. It seems that there are enough of us here to warrant one and I think it would be a hit.

this is a good suggestion because there are already a wealth of topics on the forum relating to GLBTQ issues.

alex's point on volunteer mods.

what's the Q mean? If it's what I think it means, there's no place for it.

I think it would be good to have a section for GLBT(?Qs)

GLBT related things SHOULD be kept in a place for people who are accepting and willing to participate, I don't need it in the general area.

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

It stands for either queer / questioning (i'm surprised you aren't familiar with the GLBTQ acronym) and I think people questioning their orientation have the right to discuss the process as well.

Now I've heard some say it stands for "questioning", and others say "queer". I don't know which. As a convention in the UK the acronym tends to be left at "LGBT".

I think there is room for an LGBT forum here, but at the same time, I like the fact that our posts are just accepted in the other fora. I mean, if it's an adult topic, it gets discussed in the adult forum, but otherwise it isn't like there is reason to hide us away.

ah, ok. I was just thinking about how "queer" can be used as a derogatory term for a homosexual.

Ah, I understand.

Of course queer is used as a derogatory term, but it is also an accepted sexual identity in its own right, with its own branch of academia too. (Queer theory).

Gay is still used as a derogatory term too, but it's good not to let petty minded homophobes dictate how we use our own language :o)

I'm not entirely certain, as I've never had an in depth discussion with people that use the term "n****r / n***a" about the use of the word.

The Wikipedia article on Queer is pretty good: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queer
As is the article on Queer Theory: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queer_theory

I would like a GLBTQ forum. Sometimes I want to post a thread on a GLBTQ-related topic, but I don't know where to put it. In the general forums, some people might find it too "adult" (depending on the specific topic), but I also don't like the idea of GLBTQ issues having to be relegated to the Adult Forum, as though there's something inherently offensive about sexual minorities . . . Anyway, I would participate.
