going back to college as an adult

I'm considering going back to college to get a linguistics degree. Anybody here ever gone back to college? How hard was it to get in? Did you go to the same college you started at, or a different one? Did you change your major?

I went back to college after 15 years. I chose a community college, so it was simple to get in- just filled out a form and they ok'd me on the spot. It wasn't the same community college I attended when I was 17, it was actually a smaller one. When I was in college when I was 17, I was going to be a cop, but this time I wanted to be an English major. I graduated with two useless Associates degrees, and discovered that there are very few local Universities that I could actually transfer to and study English- SO I changed my major again. I start at the University next week, as a Legal Studies student.

I got my associates degree at age 22, and at age 24, I continued for my bachelor's degree. If all goes well, I will graduate around my 30th birthday.

I just started college about 2 years ago at 27. I joined the military right out of high school while everyone else went to college.

I started through the University of Phoenix online because we move a lot and I thought it would be beneficial to not have to transfer credits. It's outrageously expensive, but I guess if you really don't have the time and can afford it then it's the way to go. I wasn't sure how an online degree worked versus a college degree from a school, so I decided to not go that route anymore. Plus the people I dealt with were very unorganized, and wanted me to take another $800 class that I had already taken. They managed to have lost a couple of classes that I already took.

Now I am finishing up my AA through a local community college. I like the social aspect of it more then online classes. Forums and classrooms online are two different entities.

I'll be 30 this year, and I still have NO idea what I want to major in. I know it will be in IT, but then again that can be subject to change.

I went back to college at 23. It was only by that age that I had an idea what I'd like to do with my life. Since then I have gained the qualifications to get into Uni, which I start next month. Going to study sociology at the Uni in the nearest city. I think I needed the time away from school to suss out some things for myself and build up my confidence after it took a battering in school.

Now I've got to decide if I should move into the city to be nearer, or stay at home.

Went back to school at age 23 (Changed from electrical engineering to medicine). Completed all the prereqs at the local community college and will be starting in a couple of months in medical school

I guess it doesn't matter what age you are you can still go back

Went back at age 27 after a 6 year absense. Wasn't hard to get in since I went bsck to the same university. I literally signed up for a course on a whim online. The computer said I had a hold (because I hadn't been there in so long), so I called up registration and they took it off over the phone. Total time between decision and sign-up was about 10 minutes (5 spent deciding what class I wanted).

I changed my major halfway through the semester after I decided I liked going to school.

At 16 my parents forced me to pursue a professional degree in business management. After painful years of regret and shame, I got my degree last December.

Now I'm 25. This semester I'm going to start studying journalism, which is what I should have done from the beginning. I feel much better about myself, but noone is going to give back to me the years I lost.

So my advice is: don't let your family push you. Follow your bliss. No matter how old you are, your path is yours alone to walk.

Yeah, getting my family to go along with it will be the hard part. Especially since one of the colleges I'm considering is across the country.
