LeonSKennedy827 - Don't let them get to you. I've had people tease me for my interests too, and I basically learned to shut up about my interests. Maybe there's a better way of handling the problem, dunno. Probably depends on what your interest is.

However you solve it, remember that whatever makes you happy is good. If Sonic makes you happy, then Sonic is good. Feel sorry for those stupid people who mock you, they probably don't have anything to feel as good about, as you feel about your interest.

I have a knack for women's haircuts (not in a fetish-like way), and I'm a man. In my case, it's the result of growing up in a family where the women form over 2/3 of the whole, I've heard all their stories and got interested. On the contrary though, I'm pretty simplistic regarding my own hair.

But on women (and sometimes also men) it's something I automatically pay attention to and be willing to raise a conversation about it. I've never raised odd faces when doing so, (people I chat with regarding hair usually know enough of my personality) but will not be surprised if someone who's overheard such a conversation and doesn't know me thinks so.

I used to collect hotel directories and road maps. I also used to enjoy looking at road signs as well.

How can an interest be abnormal? I can think of an interest being a lot of things, unproductive for instance, unusual another, but abnormal? Anything can be interesting to somebody. And it is a topic of research is psychology how one learns to be interested in something over another.
The only time your usual interests can get you into trouble is when your society wants to burn you at the stake for being a heretic or a pervert or if you start probing around to see if anyone else has your interest by gushing about it and annoy the s**t out of everybody.
Personally, i'm not studying this but i find it an interesting thing to ponder - how apoptosis evolved. Because if a cell is programmed to die it seems that it would automatically be detrimental to continued existance and be evolved out. But what is interesting is that such a thing can evolve because it can be carried on other cells or in an organism and if that organism survives, the programmed cell death of some of the cells will survive. Over a long enough period of time, that programmed cell death may even help its larger organism(which can reproduce independantly of those dead cells WHILE carrying the coding that causes those suicide cells to grow and die) survive. Now i understand that this mechanism has been around a while and the example i found was just 1 minor example of it, and it can be traced back really really far into the history of evolution, but still i found it interesting.

I love maps and ships. I have not collected many, though, because I never had the opportunity. I could collect them now, but don't want to decorate my house with them and I don't have a good place to store them. My husband got the bright idea to hang maps all over the barn/shop walls. That's cool.
When I was a kid I liked to collect dead, dried-up, squished lizzards and frogs, snake skins, shells, bugs (only if pretty like dragonflies, beetles and grasshoppers, butterflies) and skulls of animals and any other bones. (skulls are the best) When I was 14, I had built-in shelves in my bedroom and they were lined with these items. My Mom didn't like it but she didn't bother me too much about it. I never told too many people about my collection, only a few guys; girls wouldn't understand at all, because I didn't want it to cause problems. Besides, it's no fun sharing your interests with those who don't care.

Oh, I forgot. When I was really little, 4-5, I would disect dead birds that the neighbor's cat had killed. That was very satisfying. Maybe I should have been a biology teacher, or doctor or coronor or something. I watched my cat attack and eat a mouse on my dining room floor last night and it just amazed me. Until he pueked it up and I had to clean it up!! !

I don't know about having obsessions today. But I do obsess on things; situations, ideas, people.

I love Routemasters. They all look the same, yet their Side Advertisements give them each their own Personality. I prefer the Red ones, though I find the various colours of Livery to be interesting. I love the Classic Design of the Routemaster. I feel like I'm the only person on this Planet who has this Obsession. I  Routemasters!

When I was younger I was always looking to the sky. I was also always working on my computer (programming, upgrading, etc..)

I used to make lots of star maps with a telescope I had worked very hard to earn. Makes me wish that NASA had their simpler way of mapping stars though...My friend now has a scholarship to MIT because he invented the method....

I'm veryobsessive over music. Many can't stand it when I start talking about it. Of course, Music is a passion for me. Afterall, I major in Music Education >.>

Grades 3-5, I was obsessed with clocks and how they worked. I hardly ever got teased for this.

Grade 6, I was not really interested in much of anything.

Grade 7, I became obsessed with the Titanic. I do not really remember getting teased for this much in school, but I do remember that my parents and sister kept trying to tame the amount of time I talked about ships and boats. In fact, my dad used to keep saying, "Enough of staterooms, enough of bulkheads, the boat sank, get over it." My classmates in school did not seem to mind much, though.

ahhh!
titanic!! !! i was pissed when the movie came out! it was supposed to come out on my birthday, but all the special effects weren’t done yet.
all through kindergarten i was obsessed with the titanic and the Bismarck.
Then I was obsessed with the navy, then the ari force, then the army, and last but not least the MARINES. Which is the best branch because they kick major ass!
Anyway.
Right now I am obsessed with Boba Fett, sharks, electronic crap, and medical text books.
I have upgraded my old windows 3.1 to windows XP. It took two years and some chump change but I finally did it.

I don't think the term 'abnormal' applies to any interest. The word abnormal can change definition depending on which perspective it's from. It's stupid that people get teased for interests because everyone's different, and they think we all have to be the same.

My BIG BIG interest is public information films (PIFs) or public service announcements/PSAs as they're called in the USA. They're made by a branch of government called the COI (Central Office of Information), which has sold all its archive footage from before about 1995 to a private company, so I spend a fair bit of money buying different tapes and video reels from this company with all my favourite ones on. You can still see public information films on TV but mostly only late at night when the channels can't sell advertising space, so I sit up and watch them or record them. I go on an internet forum about British TV to talk about them too. I like talking about them almost as much as watching them.
