yeah, I remember those. they do seem to not have such a big Startle Effect. It's a bit more unpleasant for me, because it just adds really uncomfortable, flashing lights to the picture.

Last year at my school, there was a fire the day that they announced they'd be having a fire drill tomorrow. I saw the smoke coming out of the bathroom myself. Kind of a waste of a period, really. The really odd thing was that the teachers (or at least my teacher, anyway) was given a piece of paper that was red on one side, green on the other. This led to some "Stop! Go! Stop! Gooo!" jokes.

Damn bathroom stoners.

Fire Drills aren't so bad once you get to college and live in the dorms. They have them about twice a year, and you'll probably be at class.

It's when someone decides cooking popcorn for 10 minutes in the mircowave is a good idea at 5am that you truly loathe fire alarms.

How true. Once a semester, and half the time not even there.

Though someone in my dorm decided to pull the fire alarm at 3 AM the night after Valentine's Day in my dorm sophomore year. Not fun.

I've hated Fire Drills, when I was in School. The Fire Bells gave off such a loud noise. I've also hated standing outside with the other kids, while I could be inside, doing my School Work.

Never had fire drills in high school. I don't know why but the way the school was mapped out I don't think the direction was too hard though, just go straight down the grass to the field. Or go around the campus from the street side if necessary.

We had plenty of duck and cover drills and some were a little too long though. Usually we didn't have to evacuate, just duck get seated agian and resume class.
Few times we had to evacuate in disaster drill.

Once we had an earthquake and everyone had to evacuate to the field. Teachers did the basic "everyone here" and adiministrators did the old "Do you have them all with ya'? in return. We were back in a few seconds later.

You guys may not like fire drills, but they are nessasary to save lives. Imagine how everyone would react to an actual fire without understanding and practising the safeist way to escape. Before there were fire drills, school fires would have a large number of casulties. The fire drill is a way to institute the proper procedure to escape so if a real fire did occur, children would be able to escape. Just imagine if you were 10 years old and while at school a fire did occur. Without the training of the fire drill, you most likely freak out which could potentially cause you harm or even kill you. So you just have to ask yourself whats worse, getting a loud ringing noise causing you to stand outside for ten minutes a fee times every school year or burning in a fire because you were never taught what to do.

I know that the sound of the alarm, flashing lights, and many people moving quickly out of the school can be hard to deal with because it is abnormal and unnatural, but sadly we need the stimuli in order to survive.

yes, I don't generally have a problem with doing the monthly drills. I understand the necessity. cause I definitely need practice to get a routine into my head.

it's just the constant prank alarms. we had another one yesterday. they ruin the day for me. after a drill, my senses are friend and I have to go sit in a "cool down" place the rest of the day. We've had approximately 30 this school year. It's supposed to be a monthly thing...

sorry, it just bugs me. nothing against you. (just the jerks who won't cut it out). ah, patience is key. drogol, I think I shall keep you in mind when it will undoubtedly get pulled again next week. cause your way of reminding us that it's necessary might just keep me from strangling the poor kid if I find him/her.

I hate anything that makes sudden loud noises here. When they would happen in elementary school I would put my fingers in my ears and walk out the building. When I was in the mental hospital at 15 there was an alarm bell about the size of a dinner plate to almost charger plate size and the school building wasnt that large at all. The school staff would try to make me take my fingers out of my ears but I steadfastly refused to do so. In high school when they happend I would run out the nearest exit instead of calming walking out the exit. I wanted to get as far away from the noise maker as possible as fast as possible.

I always hated fire drills noise, disruptionand lights. For me I always found them pointless becuse knowining the way out of someplace was always one of the first things I looked for even as a little kid it was and is one of the things I can't help but do. But many people don't pay attenion to there surrounding so I guess for them it's good.

I struggle with fire bells and last time I ended up curled in a ball on the floor covering my ears screaming because the noise hurt me so much. It really hurt.
The teachers then had to drag me out of college because I was incapable of moving because the sound didnt only affect my ears it affected my whole body.

Interestingly, I wasn't bothered by the fire drill itself. The noise just didn't seem to bother me, for some reason. Also, the elementary school I went to used a relatively quiet warning beep, before a loud blare of a fire drill came on. So in the end, the sound of the fire drill wasn't a problem at all.

What did bother me about fire drills was having to leave my posessions behind. I once tried to take everything with me, but the teacher told me not to. I was appalled, but knew better than to make a scene (read: have a meltdown) over it. As everybody walked out of the building, I tried to keep calm on the surface, but inside, I was worried sick to my stomach. I was really concerned about losing my things in a fire: my jacket, my bookbag, my notebooks, and my art supplies. (The textbooks were technically owned by the school, so I wasn't worried about them.) Leaving my things behind, only to lose them in a fire, seemed like a stupid NT rule. A shorter way of saying it would be "WTF!?".

Eventually, I learned that most of the fire drills aren't real, although having a firetruck parked outside the school was a nice touch. So the worry about losing my things kind of went away over time.

i think tornado drills at my school are hilarious. even thuogh my school has been hit at least twice in the past decade by a tornado, they don't seem to take the drills too seriously. they say "floor 1, go to the hallways" and same for floor 2... but then everyone just sits in the hallway and talks. i dont think many people know how you're supposed to sit when there's a tornado, you know where you crouch over to protect your head and such..... in alabama we would sit under our desks. and also, sooo many kids end up standing right near double doors and glass showcases in the hallways. very poorly run. the firedrills are a bit more practical but still feel like a waste of time because if there ever was a real fire nobody would know the difference and would still mosey on out the door at a snail's speed, because they assumed it was another drill.................

No, Fire drills aren't bad. When my mother was in school, the had nuclear weapons drills. They would get under the desks. that's stupid. Fire drills are usually good, because they tend to happen at the right time to get out of something. the alarms are so fricken' loud, though.

I'm going to start taking some stuff I value with me in fire drill. Mainly Calcy (yes, I named my calculator) and any books I'm reading.
