I've only been to like one proper college :D

Would six form count by any chance?

But that six form wasn't really worth it.... It was much more pathetic compared to regular school and teaching, it was too soft and the work for me was far too easy and I didn't want to carry on learning the basics so I went to attend college at the age of 17 :D

Why would Virginia and Berkeley both reject you?

And what happened in your undergrad days? Is there a lot of still competition in Washington? Just curious.

Because they are two of the very hardest public universities in the U.S. to get into if you're applying from out of state, in fact I'd guess at the time they were the two hardest period. I was a very average applicant by their standards.

I've heard the competition at Washington is even more so now than when I was applying. Not as rigorous as Berkeley or Virginia, but on the same level with like Michigan, Wisconsin-Madison, U of Florida and most of the UC schools.

And I'm not quite sure what you mean by "what happened" in my undergrad days, but if you're asking if I had a good experience at Washington, yes I did. It was awesome, and Seattle is my favorite city in the world.

I have applied to six universities:

- University of Michigan - Ann Arbor (my dream school. I really hope I get accepted. :D)
- University of Michigan - Dearborn
- Michigan Technological University
- Kettering University
- Oakland University
- University of Minnesota - Twin Cities

I knew exactly where I wanted to go: Georgia Tech. I applied to there, Mercer, and Clemson. I only applied to the latter two because they sent me an application form that I could send them with no application fee (and no essay!). I ended up getting a $60,000 scholarship from Mercer, and a $64,000 one from Clemson.

I had the luxury of knowing I would get into GT since my SAT score kicks the crap out of my sister's :P (and she went there two years ahead of me).

U of Montana - Missoula

I was accepted to all of them, but went to Midwestern my junior year and Texas State my senior.

Community college didn't require competition.

When I went to college, pretty much as long as you had decent grades, getting in as a transfer from community college was easy.

Law school. I applied to 7 but was accepted at 2. I only applied to that many because the rule was that you couldn't count on any one school accepting you if you applied.

For undergrad, applied to 4, accepted to 3.

For grad, applied to 6, accepted to all.

Okay, so everyone's listing. Here are my thirteen, in rough order of preference:

Beloit College
Agnes Scott College (accepted)
Maryville College TN (accepted with $11,500 merit scholarship)
The College of Wooster
Lawrence University
Grinnell College
Kalamazoo College
Earlham College
Guilford College
Ursinus College
Hendrix College (rejected)
Smith College
Clark University

My preferences changed drastically after I called these places to ask about disability services. Smith used to be my number one, but their dean told me that administrators don't understand aspies and can't seem to stop them from flunking out. That's what she said to me, I'm serious!

Just one, the good ol' University of Wyoming. Go Pokes!

Of course, not like I had much of a choice. By the time I applied for colleges, it was already confirmed that we were moving to Laramie. Indeed, I believe my dad was already living there and working for TriHydro, one of the major environmental consulting firms in the state. Since UW is the only university in Wyoming, my choices were narrowed down pretty quick.

Thankfully they accepted me, and even gave me in-state residency because my dad had already been there for half a year so TECHNICALLY I was a resident, not to mention TriHydro and UW have a lot of influence (UW is the biggest employer in the city, TriHydro ranks at #3.). Of course, that meant that my $7,000 scholarship got reduced to $1,000 (the 7 thousand was for out-of-state residents only), but the in-state tuition minus the 1K was less than the out-of-state tuition minus the 7K, so in the end it was cheaper.

So far I'm enjoying myself. UW is a good school.

I just wondered why are you applying for 'lower-caliber' schools such as San Francisco State or Portland State (where many of them rejected you)... and you got into Southern Illinois University's graduate program in the end. I am sorry to ask this, but I am just curious - what were the reasons for them to reject a fine student like you? You can PM me for this... I am just curious as I will start college later this year.

For the record, I am only focused on applying to two colleges for the time being:

National University of Singapore
Nanyang Technological University

If my grades are better, I might apply to University of Otago (New Zealand), UM-Ann Arbor and/or the Newcastle University (UK).

Oops. I saw many more posts so I have a lot of questions to the guys here.

Note: As a Singaporean, I am expected to apply to a local college first in Singapore; and my college application depends heavily on my final examinations, which will be released in early March. So this is why I am cautious about my college choice right now.

Why don't you go to the University of Houston? It's a good college, I am sure you can be able to do well there. And I was wondering why don't you go to Hawaii or Boise State...

Oh yes, why don't you apply to UT-Austin or Texas A&M too, they seem to have good geography programs. I am sure if you get accepted by the colleges above, you could be a good student...

Good. I wished I am as good in science and maths as you. On a side note, you can seriously consider taking up a overseas exchange program that Georgia Tech has in partnership with Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Don't worry, the courses there are mostly conducted in English...

Lucky you --- but why don't you choose a Florida college since you were from there (if I can remember correctly)?

@ruennsheng: No, I'm simply a fan of the college football there. I support the Wyoming Cowboys, of course, but there's a pecking order here and the Gators are at the top of the food chain.

I WAS born in Florida, but we moved to Memphis, TN when I was about 3. I haven't been back since except for occasional visits to the grandparents in Melbourne (and even they moved to Tennessee a few years ago.)

I was looking into colleges in the West TN area, but ended up going to Wyoming instead. My parents thought it would be for the best since we'd be living in the same town as UW (hell, we're two blocks away from campus). Also I like the Wyoming environment, it's a lot more easygoing and less dangerous than the area surrounding Memphis. If we hadn't moved, though, I would probably be going to University of Memphis. Of course, my best friend goes to Austin Peay in Clarksville, TN... but I've been trying to get him to transfer up here :)

Oh I see. Memphis... Well it seems that you still want to live with your parents after all. Cool. I thought the ultimate experience in university/college is to live on campus...

On a side note, I wouldn't want to support the Cheaters.

A: It's not like I elected to live with my parents, y'know. We are living in the same town as the university so spending money on a dorm for me would be pointless. However, don't think I'm enjoying it. As soon as I get a part-time job and get some money saved up, I'm going to find an apartment-share somewhere. I'll have to deal with roommates but I'd take that over the old folks home.

B: Say whatever you want about my football teams, I really don't care. Incidentally, who are the Lions? I'm sure I would've heard their name somewhere if they were halfway decent...

The Nittany Lions will never ever cheat in my view, so does the NFL Lions. Yes they lose but they have no reason to cheat.

And the Wolverines cheated too, but I don't like the Fab Five basketball team and the current football team anyway. (Go Bo!) I also do not quite fancy the OLD team of Derrick Rose and Co...

In addition, thank you for your replies.:)
